There are very many situations online where you open yourself to scammers. Shopping, e-mail, chat, webrings and other online groups are only a few examples. Being scammed through shopping is different from being scammed through chatting, generally speaking. Basically you risk loosing your money if you shop at bad sites online, whereas you risk exposing yourself to a psychotic or very mean person who may not stop at anything while chatting or "meeting" people online. You need to deal with these types of scamming slightly differently.
