Developing Criteria for Assessment of Web-Based
Material for Inclusion in Business Learning Resources
(Co-authored with Dugdale, Muse & Willis
during most recent position - 2000)
A system of assessing quality of on-line business resource material was required for two internet projects which require the development of two distinct databases of business websites. A set of quality criteria was developed and a pilot study conducted in order to assess the reliability of these criteria. The results showed that the system was unreliable for our stated purpose. It was concluded that two different sets of quality criteria were required for assessing business resource information and commercial sites, respectively. It is proposed that a further qualitative study should be carried out on two different groups in order to assess both the reliability of the criteria and the relationship between the two groups in terms of their use and assessment of business resources.

Investigating the Effect
of Individual Thinking Styles on the Use of Navigational Aids in a Hypertext
System.
(Undergraduate Honours Project - 1999)
This study examines the interaction between an individual’s thinking style and his or her use of navigational aids during a learning session on the World Wide Web. Participants’ thinking style was assessed, and then they were asked to choose whether to use a concept map or a linear layout of information in order to learn. The aspect of thinking style measured was found to have no significant effect on the choice of navigational aid. It is suggested that other aspects of thinking style might have more effect on the choice of navigational aid, as well as a number of other factors. It is also suggested that hypertext is not a suitable unsupported learning medium for novices.
