Dragons...
The most mystical, magical creatures in this universe.. or any other. Ahhh, the very word brings a smile to my face. I adore the creatures. I just know that one day, when I least expect it, I will stumble on to one still living somewhere in the world.
Dragons are an ancient, winged reptilian race. They are known and feared for their size, their awesome magical abilities, and their physical prowess. Dragons are graceful fliers, despite their massive size. This is due partially to their powerful wings and their innate magic. Dragons are known to hoard gold and treasures and be very possessive over it. Many a greedy man have lost their lives over a Dragon's treasure.
Dragons like dampness and always live where there is plenty of water. They like to guard springs and old forgotten wells. In the Orient, they like to live in rushing rivers, at the bottom of the sea, or deep inside thunderclouds. In the middle ages, they preferred to live as far away from human contact as possible. This usually meant in deep, damp, dark caves or deep in a thick forest. Western dragons eat and drink a lot, but never sleep. They have to stay awake and watch their treasures. Eastern dragons are not as unpleasant, but they are greedy and love to get drunk. This, of course, makes them sleepy, and they sometimes sleep for months on end. If you should find yourself in the vicinity of a dragon, there are two things to remember, don't look him in the eye..(they can paralyze you) and bring along an extra large bottle of scope. Most of them can breathe fire, and their breath is poisonous.
One of the earliest pictures of dragons was found in a Chinese tomb in 1987. It is a mosaic made of seashells set in the ground and was created around 6,000 years ago. It is thought that the idea of the dragon is thought to have spread to China from the ancient Middle East. From China, the idea spread all around the globe.
The Constellation of the Dragon can be seen between the Great and Little Bear. One Greek legend has it that Herakles slew a Dragon which guarded the tree with golden apples, and Hera turned it into stars. Another story says that Hera turned two beautiful nymphs into the bears, because Zeus was in love with them. Zeus then turned himself into a dragon. And then, of course, we have all seen Dragonheart.
Eating a dragon's heart will let you understand the speech of animals. It's blood, spread all over your body will make you invulnerable to all wounds. It's teeth, worn on your clothes, protects against all evils. It's eyes will make an ointment to make you brave... and the fat around the heart will help you win lawsuits. The only problem is .... You have to kill it first...
