Oh, the Places We've Been...

This had got to be my favourite.  I went to Jamaica!!!  Well, Adrian went to, but this is something I've wanted to do forever (that's like 14 years in Anika time)!  It was even more special sharing it with the one I love, ME!  Just kidding...We had tons of fun here and would love to go back.  Here's the deal: We stayed at this resort called Couples for a week.  It was all-inclusive so we ate like 50 times a day.  We saw two sides of the island.  The nice side, Ocho Rios and the blase side, Negril.

The one thing that sucked the most about Jamaica was Bob Marley.  Guess they figured tourist only want to hear or know Bob Marley, but by day two we were done.  If I
never hear another Bob Marley song for the rest of my life, I'll be okay.

I couldn't get over how nice everyone was, granted it was because they wanted our money, but hey I'm easy.  I love a smile!  We also couldn't get over how slow everyone was...it's a good thing I knew about that before we went, I could have blown a gasket!

But hey, no problem mon.
So here is part of the entrance to Couples Ocho Rios.  In all fairness, I must say that we hardly took pictures around the property while there, so this was actually taken while we were waiting for the shuttle bus to the airport on our last day.

Until I was actually checked into the room, I held my breath.  I really thought our plane was going to crash or the reservations were messed up or (after we got on the road after landing) our bus driver was way to stoned to drive and he'd hit a cow and kill us all.  These are my special obsessions.  We made it and thank God, we made it back!
Ocho Rios, Jamaica - August 2001
I love this photo!!!  It's about 30 minutes before the rain came and it was finally breezy.

One thing I loved the most about Jamaica was the ocean.  It was so warm and the sand is so soft.  We never go to the beach at home because well the water can kill you and the sand is kinda hard.  The sand in Jamaica was like flour with a sprinkling of salt...so soft.  I've never seen water so clear before either.  Apparently, this is what it's like in Hawaii, so we have to go there to.  They have volcanos.
Upon arrival at Couples, our rooms were ready, so we ate breakfast and I made a hat.  Rather the guy there made it and I paid him $10.  We did tons of stuff in Ochee.  On our anniversary we climbed Dunn's River Falls and the hotel had a beach party afterwards.

This picture was taken after we got back from shopping.  It was pouring rain when we left, but when we got back it had stopped so I made a sarong (not like the hat).  I actually painted the flowers on it, but then Adrian started painting better flowers so he was punished.  Not really, but my arms got tired so here he is holding my sarong so it can dry.  And yes, it started raining soon after we took the picture
.
Negril, Jamica - August 2001
Finally, some decent music.  First off, the people at the Negril property weren't as nice as the people in Ochee.  Secondly, as mentioned before we were tired of Bob Marley songs.  Thirdly, we were slowing learning that an all-inclusive resort feels like summer camp.  We left the property. At night.  Brave considering an American lady went missing from Negril a few months before we went.

This is Alfred's Ocean Palace. The music was awesome lots of old reggae and rock steady being performed.  It was also a great mix of people, There were rastas, rude boys, Germans, frat boys, and us!  Okay, so granted it was at night right on the beach, but come on, most of the guys onstage were wearing sweaters or sweatshirts.

This is also the place where we got fleas.  Don't ask...Don't tell.
There really isn't anything to say...
They say that some Negril boasts of some of the best sunsets in the world.  Of course they also say, "Step on a crack, break your mama's back", and I'm still waiting for that.  Kidding!  One hour before we left the hotel to see the sunset, it would pouring down rain, so that explains the clouds.

We've had some spectacular sunsets in LA the last few weeks, but they just don't compare to this.  The whole time it seemed the sun was oozing out of the sky...slowly going to bed.  It was beautiful.

We loved the grounds at Couples Negril.  There was so much going on there.  There were about 5 or 6 of these fish ponds all around.  When you walk to the bridge, they fish swarm to you!

The cabana in the background is the spa.  Newlyweds get a free one-hour massage there.  We didn't get massages, since we were so busy eating.  That's okay, I see my chiropractor once a week.
Like I said before, most of these pictures are in my Yahoo! Photo Album at http://photos.yahoo.com/fabooj.  We took over 300 pictures the entire trip.  If we decided to get another scanner, then I'll add the photos from the Dunn's River Falls and our glass bottom boat adventure.

Jamaica was insane.  People all over the place were trying to sell us pot.  Even in the ocean!

Our luggage broke on the plane, so we took a taxi into town to buy a new suitcase.  Our cab driver took us to Woolworth's and made sure we didn't get ripped off.  That was sweet of him.

And I bought a dress from a lady whose sister lives off of Fairfax just south of Pico.

We can't wait to go back and get in the ocean.
I'm also working on getting some music on this site, so that'll be exciting!!!
