For students to evaluate the usefulness and validity of a web site.

Process
Using the following checklist judge the usefulness of your site

Authority
  • Who created this page?
  • What organisation does the author belong to?
  • Is the page signed by the author?
  • Is an e-mail address included?
  • How do you know that the information on the page is true/untrue?

    Content
  • Does the title of the page tell you what the page will be about?
  • When was the page created and is the date important to the content?
  • Is the information useful for your purpose?
  • Would it have been easier to get the information from other sources?
  • Did the information lead you to other sources that were useful?
  • Does the information seem biased? Are personal opinions given?

    Technical and Visual Aspects
  • Do the pictures, if any, add to the page?
  • How up-to-date are the links?
  • Do they all work?
  • Does the page take a long time to load?
  • Are there helpful headings and subheadings on the page?
  • On subsequent pages are there links back to the home page?
  • Are the links clearly visible and explanatory?

    Written Summary
    Taking into account the information you have collected explain whether or not if this site is useful for your purpose. Include the subheadings as part of your writing up of the sheet.
