USING THE INTERNET IN THE ENGLISH CLASSROOM

Designing a Student Web Page using HTML tags.

The level of sophistication for this exercise depends on the age and ability of the students. It was initially designed for my Year 11 English class. In this exercise students will first write something to be published on the web through the college's site. It may be a piece of imaginative writing, a review, a poem or whatever. Then they will design their own page including the piece of work. Students are given the basics of constructing a page using HTML.
  • (html) The (round) Brackets need to be changed to < the angled> brackets for the actual page.
  • (body)
  • (title)...(/title)
  • (bodybackground="...gif") or
  • (bodybgcolor= "midnightblue"
  • text="white"
  • link="yellow"
  • alink"forestgreen"
  • vlink="orange")
alink is before it has been clicked on the first time
    vlink is a visited link.
GIF and JPEG are used for graphics.
  • (center)
  • (h2) The heading, the name of work
  • (/h2)
  • (/center) Now the actual piece of work can be entered.
    Then;
  • (/body)
  • (/html)
  • Some addresses would be given for students to find some graphics and general hints for using HTML to add to their pages.
