Kara

Hello, this is my daughter Kara. Kara was diagnosed with Wilm's tumor Stage II in June of 1997. There were no noticeable symptoms that led up to the uncontrolled vomiting that resulted in our visit to the emergency room. There the pediatrician on call decided to follow my lead as there were many sick children doing the same thing. The only difference being the complaint of lower abdominal pain. Blood work revealed nothing and upon my insistence that something more than a cold was wrong, a x-ray was ordered. The x-ray revealed a large mass in her stomach area. The pediatric surgeon was called and ultrasounds were ordered. All resulted in the diagnosis of Wilm's tumor, Stage II.

Kara underwent chemotherapy for six months and finished in December of 1997. She has had a few problems with infection in her port and the port had to be removed. Other than a mild cold and chronic complaint of stomach pains she has been OK. She has been referred to a pediatric gastroenterologist and other than that she is doing quite fine. She loves grits and demands it every day for her breakfast…. So I buy it by the case.

She has quite an extensive vocabulary for a 3 year old and loves to volunteer to help. She is very demanding and knows what she wants. She stands up for herself and is definitely the informer. She is bilingual, with Spanish being her second language. She loves dolls and has been known to comb their hair until it's quite bald. She also likes to construct things with her blocks and loves to sing while she works. As you can see, she also likes to have her picture taken.
