Mlkttk Laurie Tracy, Kaleigh, Thomas, Keith & Korey. Laurie & Michael. Hello all. Just a little info about our family and what has brought us to POKWC. My name is Laurie and I am mom to 2 great kids and 3 great stepkids. I am a part time nurse although I haven't been working much since Kaleigh was diagnosed. My husband Michael is a meterologist. We have been together for 7 years. Keith, our oldest, is now 15 and learning to drive (HELP). He is interested in sports, music, and friends - like most teenagers are. Thomas is 14 and is interested in clothes and music. Tracy is 14 also and is interested in talking on the phone and being on the computer. Next comes Kaleigh, who just turned 4 (yeah we made it). Kaleigh is interested in music (anything her big sister listens to) and she loves animals - especially horses. Kaleigh was diagnosed on 6/29/99 with Pre B ALL - Low Risk. Needles to say, our world came to a sudden halt on that day. Kaleigh hit remission on July 27th, 1999 (2 days after her 4th b-day) and we pray she stays there. She is on Protocol CCG 1952. Kaleigh - 2 months before she was diagnosed. Kaleigh is doing well now...just alot more tired than usual. This all began after a week of being sick and running high fevers. Kaleigh was sent to the ER and a pediatric surgeon was called. Her pediatrician thought she had appendicitis. It was there that blood work was done and we found out - yeah it may still be appendicitis...but we think she may have Leukemia too. I was in such disbelief. She was admitted to the Peds ICU for a week. They did a bone marrow the next day and confirmed in fact it was Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She did have a horrible stomach infection near the appendix area, which is why we thought appendicitis at first. But we are home now and just finished induction phase and are now starting 6MP with Triples. Kaleigh and her new baby brother Korey - taken just weeks before Kaleigh was diagnosed. Korey was born June 1st 1999. He is pretty much only interested in eating right now!!! So not only did we have a very sick little girl, we had a newborn too. But I am so glad we have him. He is the ray of sunshine in all of this!
