Gustav Klimt, "Three Ages of Woman," 1905. |
"Our civilization needs more of the gut wisdom women achieve simply by living as women: the birth givers; comforters; observers of human nature; and frequently the sole fountainhead of warmth, color, pleasure, and stimulation that gives menaing to the lives of men. Old men are supposed to have acquired enough wisdom to run corporations and governments. it may be that, contrary to popular prejudice, old women acquire even more: perhaps enough wisdom to establish better moral standards for the world. --- Barbara G. Walker, The Crone: Woman of Age, Wisdom, and Power, 1985. It is a source of great amusement to me that men are so threatened by my use of the word "crone." I have given up explaining about reclaiming words that have had their original meanings obscured under centuries of patriarchal propaganda, and used to demean and denigrate wimmin. I am celebrating approaching Cronehood -- as I come into the fullness of my power as a womon. I invite you to join me in my celebration. At the moment, all I have here are some links. Later, I will have lots of other Crone stuff, so check back often.
These are my links for over-40 women who wonder where all the grown-ups are. Some of these look great, and offer a lot of useful information. Some I haven't checked thoroughly, so if you find a dud, let me know.
