	Collector's Guide to Early Photographs by O. Henry Mace When I first started collecting old photographs this book was a great help to me (and still is). Well-illustrated with clear explanations on how to date photographs by their mounts, the book also contains a lot of information about cased photographs (daguerreotypes, tintypes, etc.).
	Photography & the American Scene by Robert Taft Originally published in the 1930s, this history of photography in America captures the wonder that the first photographic images inspired. Samuel Morse wrote after visiting Daguerre's studio in 1839: "[t]he exquisite minuteness of the delineation cannot be conceived. No painting or engraving ever approached it."
	Human Figure in Motion by Eadweard Muybridge A Dover reprinting of Muybridge's classic study of human locomotion. 	Women at Work: One Hundred Fifty Photographs by Lewis Hine edited by Jonathan L. Doherty A Dover reprinting of Hine's images showing working women taken between 1907 and 1938, from city women in factories and sweat shops to farm women in their homes and yards.
No image available (out-of-print)	The Magic Image: The Genius of Photography by Cecil Beaton and Gail Buckland This British book provides a well-illustrated overview of photography and famous photographers from the beginning of photography up to the 1970s, including some of my favorites, such as Julia Margaret Cameron and Jacques-Henri Lartigue.
