Certificate Renal Course 99

The Hong Kong Kidney Foundation and the Lions Kidney Educational Centre (L.K.E.C.) are pleased to announce a Renal Nursing Course in conjunction with the Hong Kong Baptist Hospital and the Integrated Dialysis Facilities (HK) Ltd. This is the seventh course organized and is updated.

Description of the Course:

The objective of the course is to provide the renal nurses with theoretical knowledge of haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, haemofiltration, CRRT, basic concepts of renal transplantation, medico-legal aspects of renal nursing and the role of a modern day renal nurse. The safety measures and risk management of a renal centre, cardiac life support and the Human Organ Transplant Ordinance (Cap 465) will also be covered.

The course consists of a basic part (16 weeks) and an advanced part (4 additional weeks). A minimum 2 weeks of practical haemodialysis training through clinical attachment to an established renal unit is needed to complete the course. At the end of the course, the course participants will have good working knowledge of the renal unit routine. For course participants of the advanced part, an additional 2 weeks of CAPD training will be offered to complete the training.

At the end of the course, there will be assessment in the form of written examinations and project presentation. Scholarships will be awarded to the course participants with highest marks in the assessment and the best project. Certificate will be awarded to those who have attended over 85% of the sessions, passed the assessment and completed the project. (see the prize winning project of Course 97) The course will be accredited by the Institute of Advanced Nursing Studies of the Hospital Authority.
