TATTERED AND WORN

In a quiet room she sits and she ponders
She looks back in time as her mind wanders
Turbulent times, too many to count
Sorting through as the pressures mount
It builds to a point, her mind she will lose
There were no options, no choices to choose
No blame to take, no fault that was hers
She keeps looking for answers, her mind in a blur
She seeks peace from the heartache deep inside
A tortured soul, the pain she can't hide
She thinks back at times when she did strike out
At the ones she loved most, she would scream and shout
She would strike out with force, not meaning to hurt them
She knows it's not them, she knows it was him
He is the one who hurt her, he tore her life apart
He left her in pieces to deal with the scars
The shattered pieces to put back together
The life line to the past is so hard to sever
He took from her all her childhood dreams
Yet, to forgive another would be easy it seems
She wants a future, to put pain in the past
She wants it to end, to find tranquility at last
She wonders how much more she can take
She would like to sleep and never to wake
To face a new day will still be the same
It just never ends, who do you blame?
Yesterday repeats, she strikes out again
She knows no other way, anguish, despair
She wants to believe there is someone who cares
Someone to stand by her, to see her through
To help her, to guide her, to tell her the truth
Trusting in no one, each day passes by
She questions herself, she lives in a lie
She wonders why she can't let it all go
This past that haunts her, she needs to know
She needs to forgive, herself most of all
To stand up, be proud, to walk and not crawl
She needs to discover the person within
Who is pretty and bright, with so much to give
To be the person they all know she can be
Others can see it, so why can't she
At times she thinks she might find herself
Like an old dusty book that's been left on the shelf
Beneath its cover pages are tattered and worn
But to those who've not read it, a new story's born
Like a book life is a mystery from beginning to end
You can't skip any pages for the story to blend
It will all make sense if you read every line
As the chapters of life, deal with one at a time.
