My dad and I went out to the opening of the Seller's Mound State Archeological Area in Lebanon today.

The site was occupied from A.D. 1000 to 1300 by a Mississippian culture people. Several hand carved statues have been found here over the years, including "Sandy," who graces the new stamp that was unveiled today.

I can't even describe how it feels to stand on the top of a fifteen foot tall mound, looking down and across the open field, especially when you think about the mound being built one handmade basket at a time.
.
My dad said something interesting after we left the site. Family history says we have Cherokee ancestry but haven't been able to prove it. We were talking about that when my dad said, "I was surprised when Dad told me that story (about the ancestry) and I've been trying to find myself since."
.
So this is for him.
Discord and Rhyme

Listen.

Can you hear the drums?
Can you hear them call - in your heart, in your blood, in your bones?
Can you hear them call to you in the heart of your very soul?

Listen.

Can you hear the voices of your ancestors?
Can you hear them sing - in the air, in the trees, in the earth itself?
Can you hear them sing their song as it encircles you like a mother's arms?

Listen.

Listen.

Listen...and remember.
Listen to the drums and remember who you are - in your heart, in your blood, in your bones.
Listen to the drums and remember who you are in the heart of your very soul.

Listen to the voices of the ancestors and let them welcome you back home.
Listen to the voices of the ancestors and remember...

You aren't alone.

Listen...
