Why They Want to Be Slaves
by Jack Rinella

Five years ago this week I did a two-part column with the above title and my then new slave Patrick told us his reasons for wanting to be a slave.  As we celebrate five years together as Master and slave, Patrick decided it was about time to update his comments. The following, then, are his reflections:

I’ve gotten a lot of correspondence over the last five years from people who are trying on the thought of being a slave and often my question to them is “Why do you want to be a slave?” Most of the answers I get back refer to their desire for bondage, and particularly the accouterments that all the fantasy stories about masters and slaves popularize. Everyone wants to wear thick leather or metal collars locked and welded around their necks, have shackles on their wrists and ankles, or need to be kept in a cage twenty-four hours a day.

Then there are the references to the exciting erotic sex that can take place… sleeping all night long with their master’s cock in their mouth or in their ass. Many say they can’t really be a slave voluntarily, that they need to be kidnapped and forced to be a slave or constantly controlled or hypnotized or brainwashed.

All of that is well and good, I supposed, but as a foundation for a way of life it is a bit impractical.

I’ve often heard that you can’t hypnotize a person to do anything they really aren’t willing to do, so what would be the point of being hypnotized to be a slave? And the amount of energy that a master would have to expend to maintain forced control over his slave would certainly exceed the energy that having a slave would save.

The sex is certainly exciting and erotic. I had more sex in the first si months of being SIR’s slave than in all my years since puberty. Yes, it’s a very desirable sex life, but sex doesn’t happen 24 hours a day. Too much else that a master expects his slave to accomplish in a day’s time gets in the way of non-stop sex and I doubt there is enough stamina to keep it going hour after hour, day after day.

As far as having cock all night long (in one end or the other), I admit it would be wonderful but logistically it doesn’t work, not if either party wants to get a decent night’s sleep. For instance, it gets hot and stuffy with your head between two legs way down under the sheets and blankets. A person has to come up for air now and then. And a person’s mouth secretes extra saliva when there is something in it so it’s just a matter of time before the sheets get drenched. Legs have to be adjusted. How does a master manage to choreograph turning over or changing positions with the slave without both of them becoming fully awake?

You want to be kept in a cage twenty-four hours a day? That would make the master the slave, wouldn’t it? Unless he had another slave to feed and look after you all day long, and then that really isn’t fair to the other slave who thought they were coming to serve a master and end up serving you. Space-wise it would have to be a very large cage because the body requires a certain amount of space for limbs to flex and move about or else they begin to atrophy and get nerve damage.

A jail cell would at least allow you to telecommute to work, unless youthink the master is inclined to both serve you AND support you.

The job issue also interferes with the shackles or big collars. Most employers want a bit more decorum in the workplace than a huge chain busting through your collar would allow. General health can certainly become an issue here as well. Metal or thick leather constantly rubbing against the skin will chafe and burn. Base metal corrodes and the skin reacts.  Even my tiny, lightweight chain collar has had to be unlocked and taken off from time to time for very practical reasons: x-rays, job interviews requiring entrance through metal detectors, and salt from sweat causes corrosion and corrosion stains shirt collars and irritates skin.

Have you ever tried to do dishes with restraints locked on your wrists or negotiate stairways to vacuum or dust with shackles attached to your ankles? For a weekend it might be a fun challenge, for an extended period, well, I guess that would be one way to keep from being overworked.

This isn’t to say that some of this doesn’t happen at times, and but the practicality of everyday living doesn’t make much room for the fantasy.

Wanting to be a worthy, practical slave has to involve more than the surface things mentioned above or else the relationship won’t last very often. While the dynamics might be different and the structure more encompassing, the real reasons for wanting to be a slave are really no different than why anyone wants to be in any regular relationship.

A master/slave relationship is a relationship of companionship, friendship, fulfillment, contentment, the give and take that comes with compatibility, and the security of loyalty and trust that everyone wants to have in their life. If you aren’t looking for those things above and beyond the stereotypical trappings of a master/slave relationship then you need to take some time and figure out why, because the other qualities won’t carry your interest for very long.

A master/slave relationship is a common, everyday relationship every bit as much as it is an unique relationship. It takes place within a different kind of framework, one that is erotic, high energy and exciting, a freeing experience for both persons. It has its own definition of equality and teamwork that only someone in the same kind of relationship can fully understand but which is just as fair and workable as any pairing of two people.

I don’t always understand why others seek after slavery, but I want to be a slave because it has proven to be the place where I find belonging as complete as the control, fulfillment as energizing as the pleasure, and contentment even more powerful than the bondage. I suspect that all of the people I asked this question to over the last five years assumed that the basics would be there but that is the problem with assuming. The basics require more than an assumption, however, and certainly without them the other, more titillating parts of being in a Master/slave relationship will never be enough to sustain an ongoing relationship.

So why do you want to be a slave?
