Sometimes
it can be rather difficult to find a good place to stay , that is suitable for
vegetarians (like me), affordable, clean and comfortable. I can tell you some horror-stories about London hotels, ranging from a room infested by cockroaches to being locked out for the night. About 2 years ago, by coincidence, I found a very good and clean B&B address in London-North. To be of some help to fellow-veggie's, I will tell you about my London "home-away-from-home" on this page. If you would like to stay at this guesthouse too, just send me an email. But please, do me a favour, tell me a little about yourself, whether you've been to London before or whatever else you want to tell me. I will only send you the address and/or telephone-number, if I can tell that it's a serious request. |
The
address is in Finchley, London-North. The Underground-station is "Finchley
Central" and is on the Northern line. It will take about 40 minutes by
tube to reach the centre of London. Walking from the guesthouse to the
station will take about 15 minutes. The bus (nr.82) will take you to Oxfordstreet in about 1 hour. If you have the time, it's fun trying that for a change. In the picture you can see "Finchley Central"- Underground station. |
The Bed&Breakfast guesthouse has a nice spacious twin-bedded room downstairs. And there is a sitting-room with colour t.v., a toilet/shower, a small
kitchen with equipment like microwave oven and fridge and a
dining-room with a nice view of the garden. If you like, you can go into the
garden or when the weather is nice you can eat outside. |
Upstairs
are two bedrooms. One room has a double-bed, the other room has a single-bed. What I like very much about these rooms, is that you can overlook the garden and that you have an excellent reception of "London Country" the only 24-hour Country-music radio station in London. |
The owner will only take non-smokers, because it's very difficult to get rid of the smell of smoke and right now the rooms are still nice and fresh. The guesthouse is nice and clean and helping the owner keeping it that way, is more important to her than whether you're a real 100% veggie or not (although it is a vegetarian B&B guesthouse). You do your own cooking, so what you cook is up to you anyway. I find it an ideal place to stay, because of the freedom that you have (so it's ideal for an Aquarian :-) You will have your own key and you can come and go as you please. You also make your own breakfast (cornflakes, etc. are available), which means that you don't have to be downstairs at a certain time for breakfast, as is the case with most guesthouses. |
At about 10 minutes walking distance from the house you can find a rather large Tesco-shop. Important to a lot of veggies for the vegetarian and biological range of products. Something I do recommend, is to buy a large bottle of still water when you go shopping. The drinking-water in London contains a lot of lime-scale. So I buy bottled water to make tea or coffee and even to wash my face. |
Just around the corner is Ballards Lane, a very busy high-street, with a lot of shops. There you can find several restaurants, like a Chinese restaurant/take-away, a well-known vegetarian restaurant, KFC, Pizza Hut, etc. And there are supermarkets, banks, pubs, a postoffice, clothing-shops, and even a computerstore, where you can surf the Internet, a bit like a cyber-cafe, only much more expensive. |
Although busy Ballards Lane is only a few minutes away, Finchley is a very quiet area. Behind the garden is a park. That's why there are often lots of squirrels playing silly games and climbing up and down the trees. And almost every night a fox comes to pay the garden a visit, to look for tasteful things. If you make sure, that it can't see you, by staying in the dark, you'll have a fair chance of seeing it up close. The fox will activate the lamp outside, that's how you know it's there. Of course there's the chance that it's just a cat or a hedgehog. The only thing I didn't tell you yet, is the price. this guesthouse will charges £ 30 per person per night. Compared with the prices that hotels in London charge, this is a very reasonable price. The cheapest hotel will ask at least £ 40 p.p.p.n. If you still have questions about the guesthouse or if you would like to stay there too, you can always email me. And after several years spending my holidays in London and the U.K. if you would like me to, I could also give you a bit of information about London, Finchley or the London Underground. On the next page about this B&B you can see pictures taken by people who found the address through my website or read about their stay here. |
