I'd been in Dallas for a couple days on a business trip. My schedule had been travel on one day, with business the second (full) day, and then return home on the third day.
The first afternoon, after arrival, checking into the hotel and making the necessary "safe arrival" call, was a visit to one of my old favorite shoe stores located near the Dallas Market Hall area (near the Anatole Hotel).
For those familiar with this area of Dallas, exit the Stemmons freeway at Wycliff, and head south a few blocks to Vantage. Turn right and park. There used to be a wonderful shoe outlet called "Vantage Shoe Outlet" on Vantage street. It's since been sold and a new company with similar principles sells women's and men's shoes at the same site. (By the way, the largest shoe sizes they carried were women's size 11 -- though this may vary from time to time.)
I was looking for a pair of mid-heel Mary Jane shoes in black leather, size 10B or 10 Medium. As I entered, I first took a quick look at the men's shoes, but found nothing interesting. As I went into the [much] larger women's shoe area, the cashier (a 30-ish young man) asked if he could help, and I indicated not at this time. I went to the shelves with larger sizes, where I saw some interesting athletic type shoes (a name brand, but I don't remember what it was). The clerk saw me looking at them, and remarked that he had bought two pair of them as they were the most comfortable shoes he ever had owned.
I continued browsing -- several hundred feet of shelving with size 10 shoes -- and found a nice looking pair of mid heel (about 2 inches) ankle boots. I tried the first and it fit wonderfully, but the second shoe was probably mis-labeled as it was way too tight. Continued browsing found two more pair of these boots, so I politely grouped them for the next customer. I was looking for Mary Janes, though, and didn't spend the US$19.95 for the boots.
No Mary Janes were to be found. I went back and tried the athletic shoes, but they were quite snug even with only trouser socks. There was no way these would have worked with skrunchy socks or anything thicker than the trouser socks.
Oh, well, shopping does NOT mean buying things you see, even if you like them.
