Ok, so what else do you go to Africa for, but to see animals
These little ones were awfully cute
Oh these guys with their horns! Handsome dudes I think
This was along Lake Kariba.
I wish they'd pick up their heads!
The long necked guys
No, I don't know how they got mud and plants on their backs
Baboons were as plentiful as squirrels are back home... maybe even more so. The Zimbabwe people viewed the baboon and warthogs as a nusiance, which I suppose they were. The baboons in some places were scavengers, going thru the trash in their search for food. These pictures were taken while at Victoria Falls were they were quite accostomed to seeing people. I'm sure a number of tourists have tried to feed them by hand.
The really big animals. It's one thing to view these big
guys from behind a fence or wall at a zoo. Riding by them as they stand
along the side of the road though gives you a whole different perspective on
just how big and dangerous these guys can be.
The first is of 2 young female elephants. Then starting with the next one....
We came up to this water hole one evening. There were a lot of elephants around it and of course when
they heard our vehicle they decided they'd have enough and moved off into the bush.
After they had left 3 cape buffalo came down to the water. They were quietly enjoying their evening drink
when 2 young elephants came back to the water hole. I don't think these are the same 2 from the first picture.
These elephants had the bravado of youth and decided to try and start something with the the buffalo. Well the elephant
didn't have much success trying to antagonize the buffalo. The larger of the elephants tried to pretend it was gonna
charge the buffalo but the buffalo were unimpressed. Then more elephants showed up and ignored the buffalo and the 2
youngsters. They not only ignored the 2 others they kind of snubbed them.... wouldn't let them drink from the water hole
that they all decided to go stand and drink in.
It was interesting watching these animals interact.
This many people came to view the animals
