Steam Hamam: The Turkish Bath (1997, 101 min, Italy/Turkey/Spain, Ferzan Ozpetek) Throughout most of this film, I was thinking that this might not have contained gay content at all until the last 20 minutes of the movie. Francesco (Alessandro Gassman) and Marta (Francesca D'Aloja) are going through rocky times in their marriage. Francesco leaves Italy for Turkey to check out the hamam (Turkish bath) that his aunt used to own. It is now owned by a Turkish family who fears losing it. Francesco is taken in wholeheartedly by the family and decides to stay longer in Turkey. His wife surprises him by showing up in Italy, wondering why he's staying so long. She soon finally realizes why. Somewhat poetic in nature, the film does take its time in telling its story. Source : Obtained from Qcinema.com |
