Pride Movie Review

Journey to a Hate Free Millennium

"Journey to a Hate Free Millennium" is the breakthrough film that seeks solutions to the horrible hate crimes that have now become current events in our daily lives. Through the portrayal of actual events, viewers will gain insightful knowledge into the minds of individuals who choose to hate. They will feel and see the painful consequences of hate, and ultimately find hope and a vision of a hate free millennium.

What is hate?
What happens when we choose to hate?
What happens when we choose NOT to hate?

Hate is nothing new, it has existed since the beginning of human history. The 20th century has seen shocking acts of hatred, building in intensity and violence. The film explores the painful consequences of hate and how it has shaped our world today.

As the viewer gains an understanding of hate, the film will introduce the real life stories of individuals whose lives have been dramatically altered by hate and who have made the hard choice not to hate in return. Through interviews with well-known public figures, ordinary people, youth, and children, the film will explore how society can come together to combat hate in all its forms. Recent events such as the murder of Matthew Shepard in Whyoming and the shooting deaths at Columbine High School in Colorado will be examined in-depth.

"Journey to a Hate Free Millennium" is being created during a time when society is seeking answers to the question of how to live in a world without hate and with more tolerance, respect, and acceptance.

The producers anticipate distributing this film via the following channels:

Various cable markets

Independent TV channels

Major film festivals, including Berlin, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, and Venice

Theatrical distribution where available (domestic and global)

Direct to video sales and rental

Educational systems, accompanied by a curriculum for teachers and students

Cable, broadcast, and video distribution throughout the world, focusing on those countries where this subject matter will have the greatest impact

Additionally, the filmmakers anticipate that the film, the educational component, and the curriculum will be available in fall 2000.

The cast and the events
We have selected and are interviewing a variety of politicians, hate crime victims and their friends, individuals whose lives have been dramatically altered by HATE and who have made the choice to use their experience NOT TO HATE, but instead to seek solutions and make change. In addition, we are interviewing a hate crime perpetrator, an individual who once chose his victims based on their race, religion or sexual orientation.
Interviews include:

Matthew Shepard's mother, Judy Shepard, speaking from the heart, not only about her son's life and death, but relating her personal views regarding hate, and how she believes we can eliminate hate in the new millennium.

Students and parents of Columbine High School, including Darrell Scott and his son Craig (Rachel Scott was killed in the shooting ) telling not only their personal experiences, but offering innovative solutions to make sure that these events never happen again.

Holocaust survivors offering a historical perspective on hate, and the solutions they believe would help us enter the new millennium with compassion and hope.

Thomas James Leyden, a former skinhead and 15-year member of the Neo-Nazi, White Supremacy Movement speaking candidly about hate and the crimes he once perpetrated against "Niggers, Kikes and Faggots" Leyden now speaks out against hate, working with the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles.

Elton John, Olivia Newton John, John Dye, various prominent religious and political leaders, along with several groups of young people from kindergarten to college, each offering their own perspective of hate, and their unique solutions to eliminating hate as we enter the next millennium.

Producers/Directors, Brent Scarpo and Martin Bedogne are presently looking at various distribution sources, which include interests from HBO, PBS, film festivals, Academy Award consideration and most importantly an educational video including a teacher's curriculum to be marketed throughout all schools in the United States.

Organizations that have sponsored this project include The Human Rights Campaign, the Matthew Shepard Foundation, Visual Electronics of Denver, Janus Foundation, and the Amazon Foundation.

The producers also are working exclusively with Judy and Dennis Shepard, who have endorsed this documentary and are working with the producers to create an honest portrayal of their son.
