is a medically treatable illness. When feelings of irritability, restlessness,
tension, or fatigue persist and become excessive, they can impact on a
person's well-being. That's when a doctor may diagnose an anxiety disorder,
or persistant anxiety.

Absolutely. Anxiety
can affect both mind and body, and it can affect different people in different
ways. Frequent physical symtoms such as headaches, muscle tension, stomach
pain, and sleep distubance, are some of the ways your body tells you that
something is wrong.

What Causes Anxiety Disorders?
There are many theories about what causes persistent anxiety. While a series of stressfull events may trigger anxiety disorders, such as persistant anxiety, in many patients no environmental triggers have been identified. Some believe that there's a possible hereditary influence, as persistent anxiety has been shown to run in families. There is also eveidence that it may be due to the body producing too much serotonin, a chemical produced in the brain.
What can be done about how I feel?
There are several effectibe treatments available, but first you should talk to your doctor. Your doctor is the only one who can determine if you have persistant anxiety, and he knows a variety of ways to help relieve your symptoms. Your doctor may precribe some medication, an may also recommend counseling.
Here are some questions you may want to consider when visiting your doctor:
1. Am I botherd by excessive worry?
2. Do I feel restless and edgy?
3. Am I easily fatigued?
4. Do I have difficulty concentrating and/or find that my mind goes blank?
5. Do I have difficulty falling and/or staying asleep?
6. Do I feel irritable?
7. Do I have muscle tension?
