Ending hate violence against lesbians and gays

This is a youth issue because research shows that many of the perpetrators are 16 to 24. Gay and lesbian Christians have been roughly excluded from church life simply because of their sexual orientation.

The church must deal with the concrete existence of gays and lesbians in their midst. Taking a moral stance against homosexuality is not the same thing as approving of violence against gays. Churches must take a pro-active stance in showing "zero tolerance" for hatred and abuse directed at members of the gay community. Hate violence toward gays is totally unbiblical and should be strongly condemned.

In a church which welcomes the gifts of the Spirit on all God's people, we are called to make "every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace".
