New Update!
What's going on in my life, and keeping me so busy
ie, apologies for why I've
been such a poor correspondent of late - making my fortune, contemplating
getting married (to girlfriend S.) and having kids, etc.
Please also note:
- Personal - If you came straight to this page,
see my notes at the bottom about my private pages, and link to my personal
information page
- Orientation - These are intended to be resources
for lesbian and bisexual women, but some of the sources will also have
heterosexual erotica that is more woman-oriented than the run-of-the-mill
pornography, and there are plenty of clothing and goods that will appeal
to many interests.
- Mail Order caveats - Quite a few of the specialty
sources for lesbian-only material seem to try to avoid selling materials
to men, so guys bug off! Also, some won't send to PO boxes, but all should
send things packaged discreetly
- International visitors - as you may gather, this
is a US webpage. I've listed international information when I've found
it, and welcome further information about which US companies serve the
overseas market as well as foreign resources themselves. Having lived and
worked in Europe myself, I discovered that if US companies don't ship abroad,
if you call and ask for customer service during regular business hours
you may ultimately manage to get connected to someone in the business office
who can help you figure out who distributes the same merchandise in other
countries. Good Vibrations, in the General category below, ships overseas,
and I think now even has foreign-language pages; with them and other companies,
especially with material like videos, be aware that there may be restrictions
on what they can ship to certain countries. Adam
and Eve also now features international shipping and codes their items
to show what countries they can be shipped to.
- Video Formats - another international issue, some
countries (notably the UK) use a video format different from the US and
other places. If you are ordering across borders, be sure that you're getting
what you want! I know that you can find places that will copy from one
format to another, but it can be an expense and a hassle.
- Your patience and help, please For better or worse,
I live near a metro area that has lots of great resources, so I'm not as
up on mail order as I might be. I really appreciate submissions, and comments
on sources listed here; some of the best information here has come from
visitors.
Non-Commercial
Orientation, and GeoCities' Guidelines
This page links to many sites, quite a few
non-commercial and a large number commmercial. The purpose of both is to
connect women to information, services, and goods to further the exploration
and expression of certain areas of themselves and their lives, and not
for any commercial purpose on my part. I never have and never will make
any money or other form of compensation off this site directly nor from
any commercial site I link to. For a detailed statement
of my compliance with GeoCities' guidelines on this matter, please click

Internet
Newsgroups
- alt.shoe.lesbians.moderated,
formerly alt.shoe.lesbian (which still exists but is populated only by
spam now - and by the way, don't forget that it's lesbians with the plural
"s"), is friendly place for women who wear sensible shoes, though
it may take a while lurking to figure out what's going on. It is a place
you might find some answers or ask some questions about female sexuality,
though it is a support and fellowship newsgroup and NOT an erotic or overtly
sexual one. Look for the FAQ that is posted periodically or on the new
homepage. The group now has a webpage, with
everything from the FAQ to links to indivual homepages, at
http://www.caffeine.net/aslm/
- soc.women.lesbian-and-bi is a moderated newsgroup
for philosophy and socializing, including looking for friends in your area.
- alt.tv.xena, the
newsgroup for fans of Xena Warrior Princess (the television show) seems
to be quite the hangout these days for women who love strong women (on
the Xena note, see the listing for Xandria at top under General,
for a nice "Xena Bra"); the best website
around seems to be http://www.xenafan.com/.
- alt.amazon-women.admirers,
an interesting-sounding title for admirers if strong women other than Lucy
Lawless ("Xena", above).
- alt.binaries.pictures hierarchy has some newsgroups
that might be of interest (including at least two with "lesbian"
in the title), but by and large they are so clogged with spam and so filled
with mainstream material oriented towards men (like pictures scanned out
of men's magazines), that it is hardly worth the trouble - though it is
a source of free pictures, and there are some gems to be found if you have
the patience and the stomach.

Hardcore
There is hardly anywere I can recommend as a place
to find erotica of interest to women where you don't have to wade through
at least a fair bit of cheap and gross stuff obviously aimed at men, though
there are a few places that are better than others. Many places seem to
define "lesbian" as either a picture of a single woman without
a man, or what are probably scans of men's magazine photo shoots of two
straight women holding one another (often somewhat hesitantly). That said,
in response to many requests about where to at least get started exploring
for those who are patient and brave (or at least strong-stomached) enough,
I've decided to provide a couple of links.
- Naughty Links has a very good search engine at
http://naughty.com; a search on "Lesbian"
will produce a useful list including Photography/Couples
and Groups/Lesbian/. There are links to some free sites, and sites
with a few free pics, as well as those that require an AVS (Adult Verification
Service) or other membership. A note on AVSs: they cost $10 to $15 per
year, and provide a good value for what they give you access to, except
that you will automatically be billed year after year unless you remember
to cancel your membership.
- AdultCheck http://www.adultcheck.com
claims to be the largest AVS with tens of thousands of sites,
and has a whole section of "Women 4 Women" sites plus the ability
to search for keywords. I've tried a couple and found this the best, though
new services are always cropping up and then a few intriguing sounding
sites will turn out to require one of these.
- A general note on Pay Sites
- Just a word of warning,
I'm hearing that some of the sites that offer a "free" preview
if you give them a credit card go ahead and charge you anyway; and the
sites that take credit cards will often continue charging you until you
ask them to stop, while some seem to be tricky enough to try to entice
cancelled members back with e-mail - if you try to use your "old"
password, the billing will be reactivated. I think the best bet is to join,
spend a week madly downloading whatever interests you, and cancel while
it's still fresh in your mind, while being sure to check your credit card
statements and catch any tricks quickly. There are a few sites where you
can gain access by calling in to a 900 number and having it billed to your
phone, which is an advantage because you don't have to have a credit card
and probably have less worry about continuous billing.

- Ona Zee Productions,
the website of a woman who is well known for filming her interest in kinky
themes and female couples (her videos like the all-female Ona's Dollhouse
series are usually found at "adult" video sources, and well worth
looking for if you don't mind their oddly voyeuristic bent) back

fledgling website that requires membership in AdultCheck (see above), but

- Rocky Mountain Oyster/The National
Oyster, a local sexually-oriented tabloid gone national, it's
vaguely amusing, but mostly here for sentimental value - I knew some of
the people involved with it when it was new many years ago, and their interesting
front-page articles have given me some ideas over the years including my
introduction to erotic body adornment and piercing. http://www.oyster.com
Magazines - general
lesbian and lifestyle magazines, with erotica ads and reviews
- MODE
"Style beyond size" - I'm including this relatively new
- and basically "straight", though decidedly more sappho-friendly-feeling
than most - quarterly fashion magazine because of the philosophy that lead
its editors to call it in the Summer '97 issue "a love letter to the
62 million women out there size 12 and up.....a new kind of magazine with
a womanly attitude - real, sexy, stylish", because of its refreshing
appreciation of womens' beauty and sensuality that so transcends the norms
of mainstream society and media. Applicable both for those who are just
"bigger boned" than average (I'm 5'9" with big shoulders,
and had a 28" waist even when I was a rock-solid "hardbody")
as well as those who are more full-figured (the direction I'm heading now),
with moral support as well as fashion support. On newstands, or call 800-610-6633
to subscribe to 6 issues for about $10. No website that I know of, but
you can try emailing their account "modemag" at aol.com (you'll
have to put that address in @aol.com format, I don't want to put it here
for fear of getting them spammed).

- Good Vibrations - Everything from how-to self-pleasure
and lesbian sex guides, to written and film erotica; their obvious mainstay,
toys, are expensive but include items not found elsewhere (high quality
strap-on harnesses, double-enders of a different size on each end), but
believe it or not they sometimes misses useful items other places carry.
Their product selection has expanded and their prices, especially vidoes,
seem more reasonable these days. Their website is up and running again
at http://www.goodvibes.com/
1-800-289-8423 or 938 Howard Street, Suite 101, San Francisco, CA 94103.
They DO ship overseas. If you are new to relationships
with other women, this is a good source for books like "Suzy Sexpert's
Lesbian Sex Guide" - see Susie's home page.
- Adam and Eve - probably the largest mainstream
"adult" mail-order catalog, but some good toys (800) 765-2326
and now with an online catalog at http://www.adameve.com/
NEW they now have a "Femme"
section of Candida Royale's work. Also, they now feature international

- Blowfish
"The Blowfish website is for people to browse and enjoy sex-positive

everything from books and videos to the best toys. Includes the amazing
Folsom Electric Company line of toys that stimulate with electric current
as seen in the movie "Electrosex", and the Unicorns Productions
and Vixens Creations lines of decorator colored toys available in some
very non-phallic forms for those of us with an aversion to the excessively
"realistic". http://www.blowfish.com
- Xandria "Featuring
vibrators, dildos, masturbators and other erotic products (lingerie, leather,
videos, books) dedicated to providing a positive source of pleasure to
all adults - straight, gay, bisexual, couples and singles."
One of the big names in the business, probably familiar from their advertising
in the backs of many magazines, they have a good selection of items but
can be pretty pricey. I found the "Zena Bra" (taking after
Xena in the TV series) in their Leather II Collection particularly noteworthy.

Clothing and Lingerie
I - Practical but Sexy
Real silk stockings - Help!
Anyone know where to find them anymore, I've been told that they are no
longer being made anywhere!? This is the proper category for them - there
is something extra special and sexy about the slightly loose fit of real
silk, and I consider it quite practical to be able to throw away
just one leg with a run, not to mention that there are times wearing
garters is convenient - but I guess we'll have to made do with nylons.
- Victoria's Secret.
Believe it or not, they started out as a campy catalog whose name made
fun of victorian prudishness, and whose layouts were rather amateur and
risque'. Even after The Limited bought them, their first stores in New
York City were mostly a treasure trove of wonderful special purchases that
weren't in the catalog, much of it in then hard-to-find silk. Their first
supposed men's boxers were really women's tap pants with a fly front, and
offered in more interesting colors than tap pants, and I still have many.
They still sometimes have some great silk items, including some very nice
silk suits I saw recently, and have been a good source for comfy cotton
sleepwear though when I was in one recently I couldn't find much. But now
that they've really gone commercial, and gone to using silicone-enhanced
supermodels, I've lost my fondness for them. Some women swear by them for
their wide selection of comfortable and fashionable bras (though I prefer
a Nordstrom's store, where you get great fitting assistance), especially
the variety of styles and colors to work right with special outfits.
They have finally (late '98) converted their web page from just bland corporate
PR to a real online catalog at http://www.victoriassecret.com,
including a convenient locator
to help you find your local store if you must.
- Royal Silk. Billing themselves "The Original
Silk Catalog", they also were the original silk retailer, and in addition
to a store in New York had a store in the city where I went to grad school
where I was first able to extend my fetish for silk underwear to silk outerwear.
Victoria's Secret seems to have pushed them out of the retail market, but
in addition to mail order they now have an online catalog and secure ordering
at http://www.royalsilk.com/
- Wintersilks. A practical little catalog company
located in the heartland, with everything you could imagine from formal
wear to office wear to office wear to outdoors wear, plus of course sleep
and loungewear, and a truly full line of undergarments - even a silk-spandex
blend sports bra! Dress in silk from hat to socks for any season or occasion.
I could live my whole life wearing nothing but what comes from their catalog,
and have the best shot at it I can! http://www.wintersilks.com/
- Lifestyles Direct
"We'll make it easy for you to enjoy that ALL-OVER BODY TAN with a
SOLAR TAN THRU SUIT!". Thin european-style suits, made with a material
that allows tanning through the fabric (about the equivalent of SPF 6 to
10, cutting the sun's intensity approximately in half), but designed not
to be see-through even when wet, so you can wear them in any setting. If
nothing else, a good way to get a safe start on an all-over tan (especially
those sensitive parts that may never have seen the sun) before actually
going "au naturel". I like to wear one of their tanks, under
a long mesh cover-up or just with mesh shorts, while gardening and doing
yardwork, getting a whole-body tan while doing my chores, in attire suitable
for my front yard! http://www.lifestylesdirect.com
- Title Nine Sports "Inspired
by and Created for Women.....During the 9 years that we've been in existence
we think we've become real experts on women's athletic apparel. So as you
scroll through our website you'll find that it's packed with info on swimsuits,
sports bras and everything in-between." OK, this is a practical one,
there's nothing here racier than a lace or mesh underwire sports bra, but
then again that can be hard to find - especially in sizes and styles for
large-busted women, which they have. In addition to the best line
of sports bras I've seen, they also have thoughtfully made active wear
for women - and some very attractively designed and colored items, at that.
http://www.title9sports.com
- Spiegel
Yes, the ubiquitous mainstream catalog - wondering why they're
here? Well, for those of us who are looking for bras that provide some
exposure of piercings or just nice anatomy, and especially those of us
like me who need some support, they carry the wonderful Jezebel Shelf Bra,
a modifiable demi-cup bra with flaps that turn down to make the cup lower
cut (more like a half-cup). Select the Spiegel
option (or just click) and follow the menus to Women's Fashion, then Bras
and Panties, and you'll find it there. What they sell now is now is a different
model than what the ones I got a from them few years back, and while it
looks much the same, the similar "deluxe demi" sold by Fredericks
(see entry in section below) may be closer to the ones I have in being
cut just a smidge lower with the flaps down (it's of course hard to tell
from a model, and the trick is in exactly how the cut - and fit of the
cup in a give size - falls on you anyway). http://www.spiegel.com/spiegel/
- Carabella
A fairly widely distributed catalog of beach, casual and evening
wear, racy in a very mainstream sort of way along the lines of Cosmopolitan
(magazine). They occasionally have some interesting items, and I think
I have at least one favorite slinky evening dress from them. Their
most recent catalog (spring '99) caught my eye because they had the sort
of dresses with daring cuts, eye-catching straps and sheer panels that
catalogs like Frederick's of Hollywood often carry, only in an obviously
better quality that makes them look not nearly so "cheap". They
do have attractive, if not too exceptional, swimsuits; and I noticed a
clip-on pierced-look silver belly ring. http://www.carabella.com/
Clothing and Lingerie
II - Erotic and Fetish
Please note that, based on my personal preferences
as well as browsers' requests, I've made special effort to find and hightlight
various "open" styles of bras that nicely showcase both piercing
and non-piercing jewelry, especially for those of us who need some support.
Click here to link to my guide to bra types
- Fredericks of Hollywood.
I used to categorize them as worth a mention if only for Halloween
outfits - or to send a friend a gag gift sure to cause some amusement (especially
when you know a roommate or co-worker will see the package, a favorite
old trick of mine) - and categorize their items as being designed for women
to wear only long enough for men to rip them off. But now they're on a
kick to upscale and ditch their trashy image, and I have to admit of late
I've found them useful for foundation items to go under a special outfit
that's just going to be worn for a few hours one evening and maybe not
be too entirely comfortable anyway, or to satisfy a love's desire (or mine)
for that particular something a tad kinky. They are pretty good about offering
things in larger sizes. Plus they have a few
downright useful undergarments including comfortable cotton thongs, and
some of their more racy bras
look like they might be useful with special outfits - including a good
selection of exposed bras like the "open
tipped" (open cup) and "fantasy"
shelf (demi) models, and the especially practical "deluxe
demi" with turn-down flaps (I am fond of an almost identical model
from Jezebel, see the entry for Spiegel in the section
above); in their new '99 print catalogs they show a "Balconette"
bra that is either a new name for this model or a similar new introductions
(the have several pieces of lingerie that use the term "balconette",
the new bra has the very obvious turn-down flaps). You
can check out their online catalog at http://www.fredericks.com/
but you need to order a print catalog to see their full line, including
some of the more practical items.
- Sophie la nuit "is
a seductive French lingerie catalog designed to put fun, romance and action
into your relationship. We offer a large range of magnificent lingerie
items all created by French Designer." In a nutshell, the classier
continental version of Fredericks (above), if you want that sort of thing
- similar in quality to Victoria's Secret but in some more risque' and
revealing styles. http://www.firstday.com/sophie/
- Dream Dresser "Whatever
your dreams and fantasies, Dream Dresser ® has an exciting collection
of exotic fashions and accessories to help you dress the part. Features
are alluring dresses, Victorian corsets, fine lingerie, leather lingerie,
latex clothing, shoes with five, six and seven inch heels, men's leather
wear, and much more." An impressive selection of everything from classic
french maid's outfits, and an amazing black dress
with a shoulder-to-hem serpentine slit that wouldn't allow for the
wearing of any undergarments but is classy enough to actually go somewhere
in, to wonderfully kinky leather-and-metal-stud oufits,
and of course the requisite accessories like whips and paddles. All the
kinky classics, plus some of the best and
most imaginative items I've ever seen, at reasonable prices for these sorts
of things. http://www.dreamdresser.com
- Forplay/Forplay Shoes "We
have gathered the most complete collection of hottest and the sexiest styles
available anywhere. " A fairly "typical" variety of fetish,
exotic and slutty outfits and shoes; but noteworthy for their metal
bustier, and batman-style metal and leather bustiers (pictured on
their main page as of 4/98). http://www.forplayshoes.com
- Fantasies in Lace
An amazing variety of hosiery, with lots of retro and fetish styles, and
one of the few sources for real silk stockings -
though apparently they are now only in the closeout
section (item 36, as of May). http://www.fantasiesinlace.com/
- Lover's
Lane Lingerie and clothing, with a fair selection of "adult"
fare from toys and games to videos and massge accessories, plus a pretty
good selection of "how to" books. When I first got their small
catalog, it seemed to me like a fairly average selection of Frederick's-style
"fantasy" outfits that looked like they were meant to be taken
off rather than worn. But in their new full-sized catalog that I just received,
they have an intriguing selection of the shelf-type
and "peek a boo" (open tipped) bras on their Bra
and Panty Page (the "peek-a-boo"
is solid material - no lace - and looks pretty comfortable, while the most
practical and comfortable looking - again, laceless solid satin - shelf
bra is hidden away as an option inset in their "Bra/Garter
Belt Ensemble") that some of us are always on the lookout for,
in styles that look practical and wearable. There's also an open-cup bra
that is only in the catalog. I was quite intrigued by a silk
selection that includes some enticing cheetah-print items in a really
thin and slinky silk charmeuse. Also only
in the catalog are some outfits geared towards larger
and "full" sizes, some even modeled by full-figured models!

Body Decoration
- Temporary, non-piercing, etc.
Non-Permanent decorations to substitute for or complement
"bodmods", and which I also recommend for exploring whether you
want to go for permanent "'mods".
- Arabesque Body Creations and
Design - "Imagine the finest Sterling Silver - delicate
chains set with Crystals and Gemstones - fashioned into beautiful jewelry
to adorn every part of you. All NON PIERCING for the 'look' without the
pain." The most extensive selection of jewelry I've seen with multiple
options for all parts of the body, including temporary navel rings. Also
some really wonderful pictures of women with chains connecting their piercings
peeking through everyday blouses and crop-tops, a look I LOVE
(and have found lovers enjoy); and an "adult" area with
pictures of the products being worn. http://www.compusmart.ab.ca/arabesqu/
and now on their own server at http://www.nonpiercingjewelry.com
- Body Jewelry by Judy -
"stimulating, NON PIERCING BODY JEWELRY, designed to look beautiful,
feel incredible and inspire passion." Recently
updated with some new and fancier versions of the jewelry - including
one that gives the illusion of a real hood piercing - and very tantalizing
pictures of the items being worn. The basic items of this line, or very
similar ones, are sold in a number of catalogs and many local "adult"
stores as well. http://www.sexy-jewelry.com/

Bodmods - Tattooing,
piercing, etc.
Piercing, in particular, became popular in gay and
lesbian circles in the lat 80s and early 90s, well before it hit the mainstream
more recently. Some gals are put off by the notion of pain, which may in
fact be some the reason people get into it. However many of us find it
psychologically and physically pleasurable; you may want to know that properly
placed piercings in any of several erogenous zones can be very pleasurably
stimulating. PLEASE be very careful to select a piercer who really knows
what they are doing if you are going to have any unusual piercings done,
especially sensitive areas, and then follow the recommendations for aftercare
- the resources below will help you answer your questions and find someone
qualified.

Video and Movies - Reviews
COMING SOON I'll be
doing a page of movie and video revies in various categories ranging from
mainstream movies with lesbian characters and themes, to real lesbian erotica
actually filmed by lesbians; suitable for everything from introducing yourself
(or a friend) to the idea of women in love with women, to enjoying the
beauty of women making love to women - submissions
invited

Videos
- Wolfe Video http://www.wolfevideo.com
- TLA Video Store at PlanetOut http://www.planetout.com/shop/pqvideo/
- Independent Videos - There are some great
videos I've watched that are small, artistic productions by real gay women
for women - I will put up more info as I can track down national sources
for these
- Mainstream videos - there are a certain
number of mainstream "lesbian" videos, such as the Lipstick series,
that are pretty woman-centered - also some truly bisexual actresses tend
be good bets to look for (Sharon Mitchell, Nina Hartley, Jeanna Fine, Raquel
Darrian, and Janine are names that often come up; plus some bi gals really
like the gorgeously hung Jeff Stryker, who mostly does gay men's movies
but also does a few hot hetero scenes with the better female performers),
and recently some actresses have come along who, though bisexual, will
only film all-woman scenes
See Good Vibrations above,
under General, for selections in the above categories,
including a few in the "independent" category.
Explorations
- Paid Voyeurism, "Swinging", Escorts, Brothels, etc.
This section is intended to include everything from
hired dancers and online "performers, to outright prostitution. I
am hesitant to include this, but I get periodic inquiries from women seeking
an easy way to find a brief experience with another woman, or at least
get to see another woman in a "sexy" setting or watch two women
together. My hope is that these entires will actually provide enough
insight into the rather seedy and often disappointing world of such contrived
relationships to discourage women from taking this shortcut, or
at least to give them fair warning of the pitfalls and dangers inherent
in such so they can best prepare and protect themselves. I have
yet to hear from anyone who didn't find that what they were looking for
in an encounter between two women wasn't esentially missing in artificial
situations, and when money and "professionals" were involved.
Besides the shortfalls in emotional context, "professionals"
who primarily serve men may not be the best partners for other women even
if they are willing to have a shot at it. From what I've heard, when a
male parter is present, it often seems to end up feeling more for his benefit,
especially if the woman is seriously interested in other women and not
in exhibitionism. Those who wish to share experiences with male partner
or let him "watch" should be aware it is not truly an all-female
experience, though I suppose it's not a problem if all parties have that
in their expectations and find it satisfying. I'm ambivalent about "swinging";
while it seems to work out for some couples many others seem disappointed,
it often seems to lead to mild discomfort and resentment if not tension
and conflict, and it seems to me likely the wrong place to look for experience
of what's really special about being with a woman who loves other women.
I'd generally suggest to women that they avoid any exhibitionistic or "swinging"
situation with their partners present that has any hint of pressure, discomfort,
or "doing it for him". I welcome any feedback, suggestions, experiences,
criticism, etc. on these topics.
- A general note on Online Paid Voyeurism. Live
video feeds with "models" acting on request seem to be the latest
internet porno fad, and of course because of what tittilates men "two
girl" arrangements are not uncommon. It all seems pretty artificial
and uninspired, if not downright sleazy, to me. I'd imagine it's expensive,
and these aren't the sort of services I'd be suspicious about trusting
with your credit card number.
- A general note on "Escort" Services. It
should be noted that some "escort" services in fact provide little
more than an escort, and perhaps a bit of clothes-on contact; this is something
that needs to be clarified, though it often comes down to on-the-spot negotiations
after the basic arrangements are made. From reports, a lot of services
seem to understand providing a second woman to be an escort to a man, but
not a woman to be an escort to a women. From my experience and observations
a lot of the women employed in this line of work, and as dancers, are bisexual,
but often have a rather unendearing view of encounters and relationships
as being about commodities or power.
