Beliefs
The article in today's Paper says that a survey finds 71% of all American believe in God. Recently an article appeared in the Paper which related how science had discovered a glitch in the human brain which allows them to accept religion. So today's article, in effect, says that 71% of all Americans have glitches. When people accept beliefs as knowledge, can there be any doubt there is something amiss? And the fact that these people believe that all knowledge is belief is the appalling part. Confront them with knowledge and their response is, "Well that's what you believe. I believe something else. You have a right to believe what you want to, I have the right to believe what I want to." Or, to quote an old saying, "Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up." The saddest part about beliefs is that once a person latches onto a belief, that's it. His mind will never change. He will have that belief forever. Nothing will change his mind, nor even cause him to give it thought. Until people learn that a belief is not a fact, believing cannot replace knowledge, then the human race is in trouble. People believe there is a God. Why? Because it says in the bible. Do they ever question the bible? Never. Most are afraid to question the existence of God, they are afraid to question the veracity of the bible. It seems the mind of the ordinary man has fear as its hard drive. Everything they believe, they believe because they are afraid not to. Put another way, they believe what they believe because they want to. Almost without exception, the average person accepts his beliefs as knowledge, as fact, and cannot distinguish the difference. Not one person in a thousand can give the dictionary definition of the word belief, yet almost everyone lives his life based on his beliefs.
