Mary Ann Pringle

Farrah Fawcett as Mary Ann Pringle in the 1970 film (with Rex Reed in background)

Role:  Quintessential beautiful dumb blonde; has traditional views of love, sex and marriage

Background:  A student at the acting school only to be with Rusty; has done some modeling work; only three lovers in her life (all male); lesbianism is repulsive to her

Relationships:  Girl friend of Rusty Godowsky; after Myra rapes Rusty and goes to Letitia, Myra conspires with Letitia to keep Mary Ann and Rusty apart; Mary Ann turns to Myra for support, love and, ultimately, marriage (to reconstituted Myron)

Age: 18

Home town:  Winnipeg

Physical characteristics:  Extremely pretty girl; long straight blond hair (dyed); beautiful legs (every bit as beautiful as Eleanor Powel's in the last reel of Rosalie) and breasts (better than Lana Turner's in They Won't Forget); broken finger nails (all per Myra, various pages)

Typical clothing:  Bright yellow miniskirt, dark green sweater, no bra,

In the end:  Marries reconstituted Myron and lives happily ever after with him

Quotes:

"You see, he's real sensitive underneath. Oh, I know he doesn't look it being so strong and playing football one year pro and everything, but he's got feelings like anybody else and when you said that he walked 'like an ape with fleas,' well, he was pretty darned upset and so was I." (p. 44)

"I hate these boys who just drift around, taking pot and trips and not caring if -- well, if it's a boy or a girl they're with. It's just terrible the way so many are now, and I guess that's why I'm so hung up on Rusty. He's all man."
(p. 88)

"Maybe you're right when you say there's nothing that's really basically normal but when everybody tells you that they want you to behave in a certain way, like marrying one man and having only his children, isn't that the right thing to do because doesn't the society deep down know what it's doing, and is trying to protect itself? (p. 146)

"If  only you were a man or there was a man like you, I'd really fall, I would -- but not like this, even with you." (p. 214)

"... I do love you, as you are. I even like it when you touch me, up to a point, but it's only with a boy I can let myself go. That's the way I am." (p. 237)
