my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Another strange weather day, on the way into town this morning I was constantly changing the wipers, on, off, low, high and the sun would burst through blindingly for a minute or two then dark black clouds would roll over from nowhere. I had a leisurely morning in town and sat in the New Bridge Cafe with a magazine and a plate of egg and chips.

Back home I made a phone call to the printer that will be doing Hanna's new marketing material and had an interesting conversation about boxes and scanning and trapping and she invited me to come and have a look at their setup, and I will if I happen to be in Cardiff though I can't think why I would be. I established that the small colour pictures will be ok scanned at the highest resolution on my desktop scanner, thus saving Hanna a pile of money on drum scanning and giving me a pile of work rescanning everything and tidying it all up for print. Half way through doing that Clare arrived with a white rag attached to the end of a piece of bamboo.

The stick was a horse training aid as suggested by Richard Maxewell in his book From Birth to Backing. (He has been trained by Monty Roberts.) So off we went up the field and gave Princess her first halter training session. She did really well, reacted just as she was supposed to and seemed to be learning the lesson. Later we took it in turns to ride up and down on Nelly with the other one following behind with the lunging whip (for flicking, not hitting her with) with the added hazard of Princess rushing around like a lunatic, kikcking out in the air and charing up and down the field. It was getting dark by then so we stopped and came indoors to work on Clare's film company logo for an hour until it was time for me to go and cook dinner. After dinner we both got sucked into playing hangman with Lauren for a while but I could see Clare was itching to get it finished so while she had a bath I worked on her graphics and she left quite happy with what we had done.

Tomorrow we start a three day assualt on the fencing so I'm just off to look up the weather forecast now.
