I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick
low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.
I didn't want to get up this morning, I really didn't. The inside of my head was talking away all night and kept me awake till about 6.00 am. But I had to get up because my car was being picked up for servicing and I needed to take the worst of the rubbish out of it before they came for it. It was a nice day today, the sort of day I would rather be out in the garden but there was decorating to be done. We undercoated the whole room yesterday and today was emulsion day. |
But it's never that simple is it? Lorna's car was broke and she was trying to fix it and the raeburn had to be sorted out. The riddling grid needed to be replace because the old one had a hole in. A lump of metal had been put in to cover the gap while I got a new grate but that had melted and fused over the hole that the peg which the grate turns on sits in - does that make sense. Well, anyway, there was this big lump of welded melded metal inside the raeburn (ie. limited working space. First tool I tried was the angle grinder, it was hard to get in there, the motor caused clouds of dust to fly and noxious fumes were coming out, it also was cutting into it very insignificantly. Then I tried the drill, that was even worse, it would have taken all day. Then I fetched in a big cold chisel and a crowbar. The crowbar was what finaly shifted it. Then with a bit of poking around and adjusting we managed to get it in and riddling. Then the chimney cover had to come off to let the bend be cleared of soot and then re-cemented back in place. After that I eventually picked up the paintbrush and emulsioned the walls leaving the ceiling for Lorna and Irene to do later. |
That took me up to dinner time and that was it, quite enough of that. I might have carried on into the night like I did yesterday but my shoulder hurts way too much and there's still all the glossing. Besides I needed a bath, I had to make a pile of phone calls and then I had Heather on the phone giving me amendments of the application form we did yesterday. I was also forced to deal with the puddle of fax paper which has been spreading across the floor. I though it was all for Heather but then she told me that 5 pages was extra appendices etc for me to type up. Oh goody, I just hope I can find some time to do that tomorrow because I'm sure I don't want to do that now. |
