I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick
low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.
Another early start (well, early for me) when Lorna woke me at 9.00am to say that Nelly was stuck on the fence again, this time with both feet. Two minutes later I'm in the field in my pajamas and wellies with my hand in the mud trying to lift a relectant horse's foot with a rather painfull arm. And wondering what is going on. She was ever so wedged, in the end the wires had to be cut on both sides of her feet to release her and then when she could lift her feet higher Lorna was able to pull the wires out with pliers. This all sounds very painfull but she wasn't actually hurt by it just very inconvenienced. Princess had managed to undo the bit of string I had tied up the fence with (my knots are not the best as you can imagine), and had quite possibly been munching in the orchard all night, so Nelly was really quite put out. We all decided that the fence wire had to be moved up...and moved today. Lorna was going to be out till 4.00 but said she'd do it with me when she got home. At this point thinking it was a huge job I phoned Hanna since I knew was coming round later and asked her to come a bit earlier and help us which she said she would, much to my relief. Then I had my coffee and fags.
Filled in the DART registration for for Michigan....then thought it was maybe a little pointless to register for battery charging facilities when I'm not even sure if I'm going to have the new arm by then. Made a phone call then to the Artificial Limb Centre in Swansea to check up on whether there was any news on the funding. The woman who answered the phone seemed surprised that I was asking about funding, she seemed to think that there weren't any funding problems for anything, but I know different. Spoke to Peter the Prosthetist who said he was confident but the funding wasn't actually agreed quite yet and told me to phone the Occupational Therapist in Cardiff. She wasn't there, left a message and I haven't heard from her yet. Went off into town, put in some Laundry and bought fencing staples and wire to mend the gaps where we'd cut Nelly free. Also went into the bank and ordered a credit card, since I'm going to need one if I want to hire a car in the States....more on that later.
I was back home by 1.30pm so I decided to at least make a start on getting the old staples out of the fence. I've developed a technique for this, since I got into removing the barbed wire, with a hammer and a large screwdriver. By the time Hanna got here I had actually got the whole fence off and removed another stretch of barbed wire. We soon got stuck into it with Hanna pulling the wires while I banged in the staples all along the top row. Then we put in the rest of the staples and it was all done an hour later. My shoulder could have done without an afternoon's hammering after the shack wrecking yesterday but it had to be done. And now it is. Spent the next few hours working on Hanna's new 'Corporate Image' laying out the letterhead and compliments slip and the designs for the jewellery boxes.
Put the horses back into the field and tied the gate with several bits of string this time, the problem is if there is a know which I can undo, so can Princess it seems so I usually end up cutting the string the next day, but we'll have that gate up soon and it will all be much easier. It was my turn to cook so I asked Hanna to stay and she helped me out in the kitchen. At some point during this I realised Looey had turned up and was sitting outside doing her yoga essays so she was invited to dinner and we all had a nice meal together and had a good laugh about how tired and grumpy we all were the night before and Looey sang us a very funny song. After dinner I did some revisions to the Tribal Women's Weeked poster and caught up with some graphics...new month, new gif. And here I am, very tired, my shoulder hurts, especially while I'm typing and I seem to have developed a sciatica in my hip, the same one that got hurt in the last accident, but at least I'm not grumpy.
