my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Tuesday 30th June

Still awake at 6.00am, still awake at 7.00am, must have dozed off sometime though because I don't remember 8.00am. Woken at 9.45am by Irene, this wasn't pleasant but was mitigated by the fact the she brought me a coffee in bed. She wasn't being horrid... I had agreed to wake up at that time to take Hansi to the Dentist. Left the house an hour later, just enough time for the requisite coffee and fags and to get several items together to put in the post including cheques for the flights and tickets for Michigan. Went to town, did all the post office stuff and went to wait for Irene and Hansi in the cafe. Couldn't resist a plate of egg and chips even though it was before midday, much earlier than I'd normally get around to eating. Took Hansi off to school and then came home to find the answering machine full of calls requiring to be answered which is my idea of a waking nightmare.

Well, believe it or not the rain held off all day today so there was no excuse at all not to go wreck that shack. Went to have a look at it, and apart from the fact that it was ankle deep in smelly mud I was surprised at the sturdiness of the construction, lots of really big nails and all sorts of add ons. Princess followed me up there and thought she'd like to help so started banging on it with her hooves which I didn't actually find all that helpfull. Opened the fence to let her into the orchard, much to her delight, but Nelly didn't follow. I realised that she was stuck on the fence again, the same way, with a wire wedged between her hoof and her foot. There was no-one else home at the time, I did try very hard to free her but with one hand and a hook it was just one of those nigh-on impossible tasks. Strangely she was taking it very well, not fighting it or struggling to get free. I stood and looked at her and she put her big soft horsey nose on my forehead and just rested there for a while. I thought she was trying to tell me that she understood that I'd tried my best, and she'd be patient and wait. I just had to leave her, there wasn't anything I could do and I knew Lorna would be back before much longer. So on with the tool belt and the all-out shack attack. Not a simple matter but with a few of my favourite tools and a bit of welly the shack is now a former shack or to be more accurate a pile of timbers and a pile of corrugated. No major accidents which was good, of course some scrapes and scratches to my hand and arm, and a lot of rust in my eyes....the wind didn't hold off even if the rain did. The roof nearly came down on my head once but I managed to get my hand up just in time to catch it. Now the problem is going to be how to dispose of all the crap.....the wood can be burned, but the corrugated is too corroded to be usefull and too heavy to easily move. Oh well, that's tommorows task, if I can still move my arm...that shoulder is seizing up already, I dread to think what it will be like tommorow.

Had to have a bath straight after all that, my hair was full of rust and there was smelly mud in all sorts of surprising places. Spent some time then looking at WYSIWYG HTML editor demos and trying to decide whether to make the investment. On balance I feel like the current system is working, if a little labourious. Had a very late dinner tonight and bearing in mind the brevity of last night's sleep I'm really aiming for bed very very soon.
