I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick
low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.
The longest night. The shortest day. Happy winter solstice. |

Hard frost last night another deep blue sky in the morning. The pipes that lead up to the horses water trough were frozen solid, no water would come through them until well into the afternoon. I got off as soon as I'd done all the morning chores and as I was driving into town the sun was so bright I had to put sunglasses on. As soon as I parked I realised that the large parcel which was one of my main reasons for coming into town in the first place had not made it into the car and I had to turn around and come all the way back home to get it. I got laundry seen to and banking but didn't buy much else, well, there's not a whole hell of a lot to buy in Lampeter. |
It was a bit warmer when I got back and I thought I'd see if the water pipes had unfrozen, a small dribble came out and I left it running while I went to make a sandwich, and by the time I'd eaten that it was gushing, all over the place actually. I realised then that I actually still had quite a lot of time and actually managed to get another parcel together. I was lucky because Lorna was going into town and took it to post for me. I got some more wrapping done then, and I think I had to stop because I had ran out of things to wrap by then. I'm sure I'm over the 40 mark. At that point I realised that I was long overdue for a bath, when I can smell myself and I'm fully clad and not even moving I know that it's overdue. |
I wasn't long out of the bath when Lisa arrived. That was a surprise because I thought she was meant to be going to the Midlands today. She came in muttering something about a lady in the barn with a pig. A what? I said. A wooden pig, a big wooden pig. After a while I realised that it must be Clare doing an emergency late night carving session. She's left the pig in my sitting room for the wood to dry out overnight, it's a very odd thing going in there to be greeted by a pig. |
