my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Nobody around when I got up but I knew that there was plenty I could be doing by myself. The weather was not looking good and when I was in the barn chopping wood the rain sounded torrential but it always sounds more dramtic under a corrugated metal roof and didn't then seem so bad once I was outside. I began clearing away the old fence, stripping the wire off and banging the opsts out, not that they needed much banging. Eventually the rain increased seriously and I stopped for a break that I needed anyway and to light my fire because I knew that I would be coming in wet later on. After a while I thought the rain didn't seem too bad and went out again but by the time I had got the staples out of one post I was soaked through. It's impossible trying to hold slippery tools in the rain so I gave up on that. Luckily I still had to finish the job of cleaning the cement out of the drinking trough which I could do in the barn where it was fairly dry. I managed to get it to a state of really nearly clean enough before the darkness outside combined with the single bulb lighting in the barn made it impossible to carry on. I hadn't escaped getting wet though, well I was already wet when I went into the barn but then had to rinse out the trough every now and then to see what I was doing which meant running to the end of the house and back to turn on the water. I was glad then of the fire and felt like falling asleep in front of it.

I managed to resist that urge and had a bath instead, the solution to the problem of being wet is to get more wet. I felt civilised enough after that to type up the comments page for WitWeb and upload that. Then it was time to try some grown up food. I've been on pudding for a week and Serena had made a soup which was sufficiently lump free to persuade me to try it. It was great to have some savoury food again, eating it has made things hurt but my theory on that is I shouldn't have used a big spoon. I think the teaspoon is a much better idea at the moment. It was also nice to be back round the dinner table again as I've missed out on that as well, and just being able to have a bit of sociable time after dinner.

I did very nearly fall asleep down there by the raeburn and had to drag myself back in here and finish up on WitWork. I've still got to do one thing before I can go to bed.... and I really, really want to go to bed and it's one of thoe things I hate most in the world which I am being asked to do. Ack, as they say.
