my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Well, things a little better today, it always helps if the sun comes out a bit. I had spoken to David the morning before and asked him if there was a better tool for getting fencing staples out than the screwdriver and hammer I had been using and he had promised to come round in the morning and bring his fencing pincers. Anyway, it wasn't particularly morning when I got up but since there was no sign of him I had either missed him or he hadn't showed up yet so I thought I'd better get on with it. Actually I just had the staples out of one post and was about to start cutting some wires with my pathetic little hacksaw when he showed up. Not only did these fencing pincers cut through wire in a single snip, they also got staples out far more easily and efficiently than I could. He had brought two pairs with him but unfortunately (grrrr) it turned out to be one of those tools that were not intended for one handed use or for use with a hook so I followed behing with the sledge hammer removing the posts while David got the staples out. Like I had been, he was soon swearing at the underground staples and the buried wire and the sheer number of staples in one post but the job actually got done pretty quickly, I wish I'd asked him before. Not only did he sort that out but he is going to come and get the wire to use on his own farm which saves me the really annoying job of rolling it up.

Once that was done I tidied up a lot of tools and miscellaneous crap around the field and took a couple of barrowloads of scrap timber and fallen branches down to the barn and cut them up to supplement the dwindling wood stash.

That was all the work I did today and it was quite pleasurable. I spent quite a while this evening just lying on the floor listening to music. Sometimes I do that for twenty minutes or so if my back hurts but never for hours on end. I've done no work on the computer, a bit of tidying and what have you but no actual work. I'm not sure whether to feel good or bad about that.
