my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Sunday 5th July

Out of bed before midday today, not sure why, but I was. The good news from the field was that Princess's cut looked ok and they were both still behind the gate. Thought they could be left in there for today as they've been overeating for the last few. First thing I had to do today was tidy out my car a bit, it's going for service tomorrow and although they always clean it up and hoover it out and probably would throw the crisp packets and sweetie wrappers away, it doesn't seem entirelly fair to subject them to the full horror of the inside of my car. Amazing how much rubbish can accumulate in a car, really quite amazing. The spotlight job from yesterday was still in big letters on the blackboard so that was the next one to tackle. Lorna arrived just as I'd got the old flourescent fitting off and then we had to figure out how the bits went together because it was bought at a trade warehouse so there were no sensible instructions. Figured it in the end and had just gone out to the barn to get rawl plugs when Lisa and her two boys, Evan and Jake appeared. I have to finish a job like that once I've started so Lisa sat and watched and helped a bit and her two boys and Lauren and Lauren's friend Lauren were all clutered round the table (which we were standing on), looking up at us and playing with the tools. And then came the moment of truth. I switched the electricity back on, fully expecting, in my own cynical way, that it just wasn't going to work at all. Well, it didn't until we turned the switches on the individual lamps on.....and then they all worked. So maybe I'm not as incompetent as I think sometimes. And it does look ever so much nicer in there and now I want to put up the spotlights in my bathroom...ok, on the list.

Shortly after we'd finished and were having a cup of tea Jan and Lanie turned up with Jan's daughter Heather and food to cook for dinner and a trifle for pudding. Apparently Jan had phoned Irene and said that her kitchen was a mess so could she come over and cook dinner in our kitchen. Lucky night for Lorna who's turn it was to cook dinner. In the meantime I had to go off and help Looey to move out of a caravan she'd been staying in. Loaded up the landrover and the trailer and brought all her stuff over here where its going to be stored for a while till she finds somewhere to live. Looey got a lift over here with her cat and then went back for her bike while I had dinner. And pudding - we don't normally have pudding so it was a big treat because we had strawberries and evaporated milk as well. I was almost at the point of complaining because it was my washup day and there was loads more people than normal and twice as many courses as normal but Lainie sneakily washed most of it between courses so I got off light. Yes I hate the washing up, I hate it. By the time I'd done that Looey had pitched her tent in the garden and we all unloaded her stuff into the small barn, just in time as it was starting to drizzle. Have to try and get to bed at a sensible time now so that I'm not in my pajamas when they come for the car in the morning.
