I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick
low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.
Woken by the phone call from Paramount Landrover who wanted to collect the Disovery. Got to the answering machine just as he hung up and phoned back to let him know that I was actually there. Plenty of time to get dressed though because they come up from Swansea to collect which is about an hour and a half away. Had a leisurely bath and checked up on the horses who were still in the field although they looked like they didn't really want to be. I was just settling down to do a little invitaion for my Mother's birthday party when I heard a strange clicking sound from the field. My first thought was that they had managed to open the gate or busted the hook on it but what they had actually done was to barge throught the section of wire fence adjoining the gate and pulled the wires out of the staples. They were due to be let in the orchard today having been in the field all day yesterday so I left them for a while. Made a start on the invite and then the man from Paramount turned up. I never know what I'm going to get for a loan car and last time it was a tiny little Rover but at least it was blue, this time a larger Rover but in the most hideous shade of brown and with manual gears and windows. Shuddered at the thought of driving a brown car around and just hoped that they would get mine back quickly.
Had a very frustrating time doing what should have been a very simple little job. I had it done and looking fine on screen in about ten minutes then spent several hours trying to make the print look reasonable. Some files started taking half an hour to print, the printer was jamming and needed restarting, gave up on the original image I had wanted in the end and used something else which took just as long to print. I'd promised to try and get them in the post today and I hate it when I don't live up to my promises so I was getting quite unreasonably annoyed by all this and ended up going in to town at 4.00pm. On the way in I realised I had attatched the steering knob in a really bad position so had to steer with my left hand in one O'Clock position and to elbow steer (which is the only way around gear changing) I had to cross my right arm over to the other side of the wheel, and it felt like the horrid brown car didn't even have power steering. And to add insult to ignimony I'd had to borrow a pair of sunglasses from Hansi because I hadn't thought to get mine out of the car before it went. They were white plastic ones like you buy for the kids at the seaside. Sincerly hoping that no-one will see me driving a brown car and wearing shite shades, but Lampeter is a very very small place and someone will see me for sure.
Got the stuff in the post and bought a couple of books, including a thesaurus as I had discovered that somehow I don't have one. I've got some ideas for a game (of sorts) that I'd like to write once I've got the hang of JavaScript. Why this involves a Theasaurus you'll have to wait and see. Also replenished the stocks of communal candles and chalk for the blackboard which no longer says SPOTLIGHT but does still say WAR ON BOXES. Got back and went up to mend the fence...again. Put about three times as many staples into it as were there before. Hopefully it will hold till we can get a better solution. Now they're back in the field and we'll see how long that lasts. I did a bit of tinkering with my background after that. This was because my Father has been in here and complained that it was hard to read over the blue. Well....is that better now?
Car ariived back around 7.30pm, much to my relief. Good deal at dinner tonight, not only was there pudding for the second night in a row but no washing up either.
