my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Monday 7th September

Today was meant to be a fairly easy day. Just get the story about the camp err... festival to the newspaper then deliver the trailer up to the camp site and at some point drive a woman and her baby to Pencader. Sounded simple enough. The first part was very simple.... I had managed to get myself out of bed in time that I could have coffee and still be able to drive to Lampeter if they didn't want to take it by fax, but they did and so that was dispatched while I was still drinking the coffee, while I was still in pajamas actually. I'm expecting it to get cut to shreds anyway, I tried to keep it short.... 750 words was the shortest I could get and it will probably end up about 200.

So then I took the trailer up to the site and was immediately roped into removing the rubbish down to the tip. It was still raining..... I know I run the risk of sounding boring by saying that but this time it is relevant because the mud slides on the way in and the way out of the field were getting deeper and wetter as the day went on and very soon no-one could get in or out except in a landrover or a tractor. Another thing that has transpired was that there was a lot of firewood left over. A real big lot and none of us wanted to let it go to waste so suddenly the landrover and trailer became rather too useful. I have no idea how many hours I spent, working with Clare, loading the trailer, driving it out, unloading wood/ equipment/ stuff and rubbish onto the track or into other vans and cars, unhitching, reversing through the gate, turning round and reversing back out to rehitch the trailer and drive back to reload and then do it again. This routine was interupted only long enough to take trips to the rubbish tip, move instruments to other locations or tow other people up the field. What I am really asking myself is why did I go out of the house in clean clothes this morning? I already have a set of muddy clothes, I could have worn them.

I was dark when I left, I hadn't meant to be there that long. I thought I'd be back in the late afternoon and let the horses out so that they could go back in before it was dark. One thing I did get out of the day's work was a trailerload of firewood although this did mean that when I got home it would all have to be unloaded, along with the stereo - the same one Irene couldn't find during the wave had then been left in the caravan at some point. In the meantime Lorna had decided I was never going to come home and had let the horses out a few hours earlier , so before I was anywhere near a bath the horses had to be put away and the car and trailer unloaded. We are trying a new technique with the horses which involves us just shooing them in there. It worked well with Princess but took a little longer for Nelly to get the message. However I think this technique is worth pursuing. And the wood did look lovely when it was all neatly stacked. A free trailerload of wood is a real bonus, it's even cut to exactly the right size for woodburners, it just needs splitting and I like doing that anyway. Loey was in my bath so I postponed that little fantasy for a while, we all ate some soup and I've just been catching up on stuff for the last few hours.... oh you know, just stuff, phone stuff, e-mail stuff, printing stuff. I tried to have a bath but Loey had done something to turn off the water heater so I'll have to postpone that one a little longer. It's become more than a little fantasy now... more like a desperate craving. If I never post here again it's because I died of ecstasy when I finally got in my bath.
