I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick
low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.
Woke up (horses still in the field) and had a bath, which wasn't really necessary considering what I was about to do, but I needed one. Spurred on by having seen David the previous day I could no longer put off the 'war on boxes' in the barn. There was rather more to in than just throwing boxes out. Some boxes have to be kept for computer equipment, stereo equipment etc. that might have to be moved so they had to be stored somewhere dry. Some of them were the legacies of the previous occupants and the bottoms had rotted through, those were easy to throw. Then there were lots and lots of boxes which were intact and potentially useable but taking up space, those were the hard ones to throw away. I did maage to acccumulate 89 boxes (yes, I counted them) which I then schlepped up to the field for burning. After I had started a blaze Irene and Lorna joined. After a while I left Irene to carry on with the burning and Lorna and I cleared more barn space by throwing out old carpets, removing the heap of barbed wire from the floor and shifting bits of furniture around. I must actually calculate the amount of space that 200 bales of hay will take up, I think there's enough space but its hard to be sure.
After that I spent a bit of time trying to find e-mail addresses for car hire companies so that I can ask about hiring a car with controls suited to my needs. Looey was cooking dinner tonight and I don't think anyone told her about the new target dinner time so when Hanna and then Clare arrived we spent some time in the field, attatching the new gate fastner and doing some lunging work with Nelly. Nelly is a very bad horse, it's true, but she was going better today than at the weeked, especially when she has someone sitting on her. We got so distracted with lunging that the gate fastner wasn't finished by the time dinner was called so we left them to have a munch in the orchard. In between courses the gate fastner got finished. Yes...we had pudding today....but, then I had to do the washup.
After everyone had left I somehow ended up at the Beatnik Showcase Page , which is worth a visit especially for Paul's Magic Harp. You need the Beatnik plug-in so download it first if you dont already have it. I've also read about a site using this called Pedro, but although the page loaded the browser jammed every time, so try this at your own peril, but in the review it looks excellent.
