I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick
low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.
There's not a lot that can be said . I spent all day tidying, sorting, dealing with piles. I look around me and I see hardly any piles at all and those are orderly logical piles, before I saw nothing but piles, chaotic piles, more like heaps really. But that's not very interesting. I even had a duster and a hoover in my hand at one point. The dingy pit (my platform under the stairs) was completely covered in piles, heaps and stuff but now its almost empty, I can even find my cup of tea and my tobacco, which is fantastic news. One occurence which helped this process was the arrival of a parcel of cds which I had bought at the festival and had shipped back, 12 of them, I still haven't even played all of them. And I even phoned up about my new arm but I never got the return call I was promised.
Irene and Lorna had gone out to visit a freind who was home with a three day old baby and phoned in to ask me to put the cauliflower cheese and potatoes in the oven. When I went to do it I was a bit surprised to see that only about three potatoes had been boiled but I cut them into smaller pieces to make it look like more and put them on anyway. When they came back they wanted to know what had happened to all the potatoes, the only conclusion we could draw was that Loey had come in hungry from the carrot field and eaten most of the cold boiled potatoes. We were all seated at the table for dinner tonight, it feels like it has been a long time since that has happened. And somehow the after-dinner talk went on for hours and hours and we're talking about the garden again and about covering up the vegetable patches and cutting back the fruit bushes and it slowly feels like things might be getting back into some sort of boring normality.
