Sat, 1st April Suzi's 'official' birthday - and April Fools Day....how apt :-) A beautiful, sunny day in midtown Manhattan. A female friend from Long Island spent the day with me, taking me to a succession of department stores - GAP, Macey's, etc. Helped me select some everyday casual clothes that I'm short of, new handbag, shoes....and so on. A meal in the evening, then a trip up the Empire State for a fabulous view of Manhattan at night. Sun, 2nd April Met up with colleagues who are based in New York, for an American tradition - Sunday brunch. Mon, 3rd April Mostly spent waiting for the flight home - the weekend over all too soon. Wed, 5th April After spending the previous day mostly unconscious, I went to do more shopping, this time for clothes for work. I remembered someone once saying that during transition, you have no disposable income for about 4 years! Fri, 7th April Spent the day in Brighton with a good TS friend, catching up on all our news....and no shopping :-) I noticed that we turned a few heads and raised some smiles - nice to know that we can make so many people happy ;-) Sunday, 16th April Last week, was on holiday in Rome, Monday to Friday. Saw all the usual tourist sights, and of course enjoyed the food and wine. Yesterday had a make-up lesson and makeover at Shadi Danin's clinic in Hove - trying to perfect a look for everyday at work. Very pleased with the results. Today, bagged up the rest of my 'boy' clothes, and finished sorting out my wardrobe so I've got next week planned out. Yes, tomorrow's the big day - fulltime in female role at work. I'm really looking forward to it. Monday, 17th April THE BIG DAY at work. The boss walked right by me - no recognition. In fact this was a frequent occurence all day. I actually had to go and introduce myself. It was great. Everyone was very complimentary about my appearance, and there were a few good laughs as colleagues stumbled over my new name (new to them, anyway). I had lots of admin things to sort out, including renewal of my security pass, including picture, for getting into the building. The surprise when I handed in my old one - but as at other times, a smile and a joke dispelled any awkwardness. I just can't say how happy I feel - I must have been grinning like a Cheshire cat all day. I don't suppose I was too productive work-wise :-) Wednesday, 19th April The last couple of days have been pretty much like Monday - only I've managed to get some work done. Had lots of contact with colleagues and suppliers, and have had no problems at all. As they said before, it's just 'business as usual'. |
