January 2000

1st January
I re-started gender re-assignment therapy in March 1999, after a two year break - I needed time to really think about where I was going with all this. Therapy includes use of Ovran, Androcur, and Oestrogel. The results have been very satisfactory, and now that I have decided that I want to transition to live in the female role full-time from Spring 2000, I feel much more confident and determined. This has been helped by the support I've received from family, friends and colleagues to whom I have come out over the last six months. After a year's 'real life trial' I will more than likely opt for Gender Re-assignment Surgery.

Outside of work, I'm increasingly spending my time 'en femme', and friends have been extremely welcoming towards the new version of their old friend!

Fri, 7th January
Evening appointment at Shadi Danin Clinic, Brighton, for laser treatment on beard area. Shadi uses the latest laser systems and guarantees permanent results. Looking good after three hourly session so far. Shadi's clinic welcomes transgender clients - call 01273 777177/773917. Clinic also provides scalp, hair & beauty treatments, as well as Reflexology, Aromatherapy, and other therapies.

Sat, 8th January
Morning appointment at Shadi's clinic for electrolysis. Laser only works on dark hair (attracted by melanin) so blonde hairs have to be removed by electrolysis.

Tue, 11th January
Met with my boss to tell her of my transsexualism, and advise of my desire for gender re-assignment. Treated sympathetically and she agreed to ask Personnel for guidelines.

Tue, 18th January
My birthday! My partner, who has already bought me a load of new clothes, has also given me some jewellery and a set of make-up and travel bags.

Wed, 19th January
Told another close colleague about my plans, and in the evening did likewise for a couple of really good friends. All very positively received.

Sat, 22nd January
Went with my partner to a specialist wig-shop in Brighton (Trendco), looking for something suitable for everyday wear, especially for work. Made a choice and will probably get one or two more of the same style/colour.

Wed, 26th January
Met up with ex-band members, one of whom knew about my transition and told the other two before I arrived. After the initial shock, they were very excited for me and in fact want to re-form the band with me back on guitar. A dream come true for me!

Fri, 29th January
This week I have spent a lot of time at work in one-to-ones with colleagues and senior management, and they are cascading the plans for my gender re-assignment to their teams. Again, all my previous fears and worries dissolved as each has expressed their sympathy, and pledged their support. All very positive, but at the same time very exhausting emotionally. A couple more weeks of this and everyone will know. No doubt those more remote from me will be exposed to the rumour machine and will fill gaps in their knowledge with their imaginations - some of which is bound to be negative. This I accept, but won't be affected by it, as those closest to me will back me up.
