An Explorer Post is a group of young people between the ages of 14
and 21 who have an interest in the Fire / Rescue profession. Explorers
give these young people the opportunity to encounter the same training,
duties, and experiences as real Firefighters. Explorers is a co-educational
division of the Boy Scouts
of America.
Explorers meet weekly at one of the
cities 12 fire stations. There they conduct a business meeting, consisting
of new and old business, training activities, and planning fund-raisers.
For example: After Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida, Explorers
assisted with food and clothing drives. The meetings also include
instruction / training sessions. They are instructed in areas such
as fire suppression, equipment and apparatus; this includes
hands-on training with all the equipment necessary for a Firefighter to
perform there job. They also participate in a first responder
course, which teaches them basic life support, including C.P.R.
Explorers also participate at large scale emergency scenes where extra
manpower is needed. They also are able to participate in the
ride along program where
they put there skills to work.
