Russell Davis DL | (6-3 ½, 294, 4.95) North Carolina Drafted by: Chicago, Pick 17, Round 2 , Overall 48 by Pro Football Weekly |
Notes: Redshirted in 1994. Started eight games at defensive end in '95 and three in '96. Moved inside to tackle in '97 and started all but one game. Missed spring practice in '98 after undergoing an emergency appendectomy, then was severely hobbled by a high-ankle sprain until very late in the season. Had 46 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks in '95; 27-4 1/2-2 1/2 in '96; 60-9-3 in '97; and 36-3 1/2-2 in '98. Positives: Good size and speed. Thick in the lower body and has quick feet. Very athletic for a defensive tackle and has pass-rushing potential. Can run and chase. Has some explosive qualities. Looked good in Carolina's bowl game this past season after his ankle had healed. Negatives: Had a very disappointing senior year and an up-and-down career. Is not overly instinctive. Does not always play with leverage. At times, his playing strength appears to be off. Summary: Davis could be a special player if he puts it all together, but that is a big "if." Otherwise, he may be a perennial tease. Information provided by Pro Football Weekly
