Movies to Watch
There are some great movies to see that pertain to World War 2.I have seen a lot of them and I have put my favorites here.If you have a great movie that you think should be listed here, e-mail themto me and I check them out!
- Tora! Tora! Tora!-This is the best World War 2
movie I've seen.20th Century Fox put a lot of money
into this picture.Using actual flying replicas of
Zeros, Vals, and Kates, and with very cool explosions. It also gives the effect the "Good Guy-Bad Guy" effect with the music and the tone of voice they were using.
- Midway-Not as good as Tora! Tora! Tora!, but good
enough. It uses footage from Tora! and is generaly a
second-rate film. But, it has historical value even though is was "all Hollywood and no substance".
- Saving Private Ryan-I know that this movie has
nothing to do with the Pacific War, but it's a great
movie.I shows what World War 2 was really like and
it's also good because it shows you the war through the soldiers' eyes.A must see!
- The Thin Red Line-I don't know why I'm putting
this movie in here. It's a waste of film.A must not
see!
- To Hell and Back-This is a great movie. It's about Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier in the United States. If you like true-to-life stories, watch this movie!
- Memphis Bell-This is a great movie! It's about the last mission of the B-17 named "Memphis Bell", which was the first American heavy bomber to complete its tour of duty.If you want information about the B-17, see this movie!
- Down Periscope-Now, I know that this movie has nothing to do with the war, but the Stingray, an old Gato Class sub they were using is a great example of the subs in World War 2.Not only does it have great shots of the sub but it is very funny!!!
- Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo-This movie is an old one.It came out right after the war.But it's cool. It's about the DooLittle Raid on Tokyo in 1942.It's great because they used real B-25's when they were in their prime.
- Air Force-I seen this movie in Blockbuster and I thought it was worth a shot. The movie is O-kay, but it's a propaganda film. It's about a crew of a B-17 that is caught in the middle of the war, and they come in and "save the day"! If you're in Blockbuster and you see a better one right next to it, get the better one.
- The Great Escape-A great Steve McQueen movie. It's about a daring escape from a Nazi concentration camp. It's an exciting movie!
- Schindler's List-This movie is the best documentary on The Holocaust out there! Though, I thought it was a little disturbing, it's the truth.
- Saving Private Ryan-This is one of the best war movies I have ever seen! It has a powerful story. If you haven't seen it yet, go to Blockbuster and rent it.Trust me, it's worth it!!!
- Band of Brothers-Band of Brothers was a documentary series that was shown on HBO a couple of years ago.I have only seen a few shows, but I loved it.It's availible on DVD.It's expensive, but it tells the true story of the 101st Airborne in Europe.
