Hyatt on Sunset, California, United States. |
Arrived late Tuesday afternoon, 2nd. May '95, US-AIR US2116 from New York via Indianapolis. Took shuttle bus from the airport. Room #1102. What a nice stay this was - beautiful views from the rooftop pool down to the ocean, views behind us up into the hills. Central for walking (No-one WALKS in Hollywood, it seems, except tourists) close to L.A.’s most famous restaurants and nightlife with neat little shops along the way. So many large, fast flashy cars - and petrol fumes. We did the tourist thing - took a coach tour that hurtled along the freeways to - wherever it was, had a wonderful meal in a Chinese restaurant with wonderful views, and tried to catch up with all the latests gadgets in the extensive shopping mall. Wednesday, 3rd. May 1995 We walked around this famous address admiring landmarks and billboards and had a very expensive, leisurely lunch on the sidewalk at Une Chausee, simply watching people wanting to be watched ! Another coach tour - this time to the observatory at the top of the hills via downtown, the city, the homes, the exclusive shops. Fell asleep while everyone else admired the stars in the sidewalk. Instead I felt awe-struck by the most wonderful view of a half moon through the telescope - bought a glow-in-the-dark t-shirt as a souvenir. The hotel has since changed it's name now, Update - Hyatt West Hollywood and there were repairs being done at the time. Breakfast was always pleasant, yet everyone seemed in such a rush ! The bar area, which was rather small and dark, was friendly even with the television overhead constantly on a sporting channel. Conversations with a roving sports writer, here, who told me more about the basketball scene in Australia than I even cared to know. Departed Thursday morning, May 4, Qantas QF26, for Honolulu. How far is it ? - 2551 miles (4105 km) NB Had thought of staying here on my next trip January '98 and instead stayed in Long Beach, seven miles away. |
