Saturday, 26th. September, '98. Check-in around 11pm, we're both tired, and hot. Unpack a few things, turn the airconditioning up high and fight over beds. Sunday, 27th. September, '98. Hot ! Awake early after a tremendous storm during the night and we both go for an early morning walk around the pool and gardens, along the beach, getting our bearings. Beautiful Sentosa Island - tropical and compact, a real hideaway so close to the city. Well kept gardens with scenic pathways and plenty of birdlife, and a monorail connecting the activities to the main harbour stop. Breakfast - with Nasi Lemak, ikan bilis, rambuttans, congee, guava juice - even Bee Hoon ! Off to the monorail for the trip around the island, high in the tree tops of the rainforst. Exploring the quay, the shops, the Asian Village. Returning on the open-top double decker bus with sore feet. Relaxing by the pool, then watching the pink sunset and eating real satay, with Pisang goreng and iced kachang for desert. Monday, 28th. September, '98. Waking early again this morning and glancing across to the window we see clouds, blue sky and quickly dress to go down for breakfast. Spend time in the Business Centre talking with Asha while online checking mail, trying to organise appointments and meetings in Cork. We head off via bus to 'Fantasy Island' with it's water rides, tunnels, hot hot sun. 34o today, and after a few hours we are both badly sunburnt - so straggle back to our hotel for more satay in the sunset. Tuesday 29th. September, '98. Both awake red, sore, sunburnt and feeling sorry for ourselves. Overcast sky, and we don't seem to notice the humidity as much today. Wednesday 30th. September, '98. Next stop - Ireland. How far is it ? - Singapore - London = 6739 miles (10846 km) |
