Tuesday, 10th. January, '89.
Arriving late, it's a bit of a hassle going through customs. We have to leave the new video camera to collect on our return. No explanation given, either.

So it's off in a taxi through the dark countryside to our accommodation.

Wednesday, 11th. January, '89.
Spent time on the beach, swimming and lazing. Beautiful clean, soft, white sand, and the ocean is warm and clear.

Thursday, 12th January, '89.
I head off early in the bus with eight others in todays diving group, leaving Charlene planning her pancakes. We travel through countryside and small villages which remind me of Fiji. Plenty of sugar cane, pedestrians and erratic drivers.

Where we arrive is from a postcard ! Such a pretty spot with the same soft, white sand and clear water.

Both dives were great, yet the swell had picked up near the end, and sitting in the small boat waiting for the others to surface is the closest I've ever felt to being seasick. The answer - get back in the water ! Yet images from 'Jaws' kept going through my mind - would that shark return and pick off one of the others below me, or zoom in on me dangeling from the boat ? Scary.

Tired yet happy, returning to the hotel I head off for a wonderful massage. Then a nap before dinner.

Friday, 13th. January, '89.
Early start to get us back to the airport to allow plenty of time to collect video camera. The song 'Don't worry, be happy' seems to be the theme song for Mauritius. The taxi driver sings it, it's on the radio, and by the time he's finished changing a tyre as we sit by the road-side, I'm sick of it !

Next stop - Durbin.
