The Girls

My Mom and Dad just call the chickens the Girls, but I actually gave them names - Frightful, Comet, Diamond, Crystal, Boo, Eek, Brainiac, Rita, Prize, Wind, Pumpkinseed, and Rose. There's twelve hens in all, six Plymouth Barred Rocks and six Rhode Island Reds. My Dad doesn't want a rooster because he says it will crow in the morning and we don't want chicks anyway. He built them a
little henhouse in one of the old horse stalls. He left the bigger one so I can have a horse some day. We feed and water the Girls every day, but they like to eat a lot of bugs and worms too.
