Jax, Mac, Jason, Mike and Miranda all went to Harry's apartment. Once there, they started searching for clues. Miranda found a crumpled up picture of Brenda in the trash. Mac then started going through a desk and found a black planner book. The book is basically a letter to Lily, telling how Harry planned on kidnapping Brenda and killing her, while making Sonny watch. A desperate Jax almost lost it but from Harry's words Jason figured out that Harry planned on taking them to the catacombs. They all rush over there. In the cave, Brenda asked Sonny what Harry had to do with Lily's death. Sonny told her about Harry's betrayal and how he went to Riveria. He told her that Riveria ordered a hit-man to kill Sonny and the pretty dark-haired girl. He said that he let Harry live because Lily cared for him but that had been a mistake. Sonny then started telling Brenda how he got started in that kind of life. He said that when you're young and desperate you dont care about your future, at least not until you fall in love then you lie about how dangerous it is because you dont want to lose the one you love. Brenda then told Sonny he wouldnt have lost her and he answered 'But I did.' Brenda told Sonny that the worst day of her life had been the day he found her with Miguel. She said that she had been hurting so bad she just wanted to block it out and Miguel was there. Sonny told her: "You cant tear your own heart out. No matter how much it hurts. You cant walk away from us. You're a part of me, Brenda. I love you." Sonny then told her that they were inevitable. He said that for so long he wanted to die but not anymore because he had never had the chance to love her like she deserved. Brenda then told him about her feelings for Jax and that she had never wanted to hurt him, she had wanted to love Jax the way he loved her but she couldnt. Sonny told her he understood because that was how his relationship with Lily was.

Brenda: " I hated that Lily could give you peace."
Sonny: "I hated that Jax made you feel safe."

Brenda then told Sonny she loved him. They kissed and made love. Afterwards, Brenda began reminscing about how they met and said she wasnt sorry. Sonny held her and told her to go to sleep.

At the entrance to the catacombs, Jax and the others found the cave-in. Mac called in a rescue squad but told them that it wasnt very likely that anyone had survived. Both Jax and Jason refused to believe that Brenda and Sonny were dead. Jax started looking for another way into the caves, all the while yelling Brenda's name. Inside the caves, Brenda woke up after hearing Jax's voice. She yelled back at Jax and he promised to be right back with help. She then woke Sonny up, and begged him to keep their lovemaking a secret. Jax returned with the others, and after the walls nearly caved in, they both were rescued. Jax found a moment alone with Sonny and warned him to stay clear of Brenda.



After being checked out at the hospital, Jax took Brenda home. Grateful that Brenda was okay after her ordeal, Jax told her that he almost slept with Miranda when he thought she had left him for Sonny. Brenda, feeling guilty about her recent association with Sonny, tried to tell Jax what had happened in the catacombs but couldnt bring herself to tell him about their sleeping together. Instead she confessed about her drug dependency. Jax offered comfort and promised to help her thru addiction. Later, Miranda called and Jax left to met with her. While he was gone, Robin showed up to make sure that Brenda was okay. Brenda confided everything to her friend and Robin offered her support. Worried when he couldnt get Brenda on the phone, Sonny rushed to her penthouse to make sure she was okay. Brenda greeted him coolly and assured him that she was fine and had everything under control. Robin then greeted him and insisted that they leave together and let Brenda rest. When they were alone, Robin told Sonny that no matter how much it hurt him, he needed to leave Brenda alone for right now and give her some space.

Jax tried to find out what was troubling Brenda. She started to tell him about making love to Sonny but she stopped herself again and instead talked about her drug addiction. Later Ned came over and tried to repair his friendship with Brenda and told her that Lois was worried about her. Brenda told Ned about her addiction and said she planned on doing something about it. After Ned left, she phoned Kevin and asked to come out to the lighthouse. Kevin agreed to see her right away. During an emotional session, Brenda broke down in tears and confessed to Kevin that she felt torn between Jax, Sonny and her addiction. Kevin advised her to consult a drug counselor and to concentrate on herself for once, not the men in her life. Brenda agreed that she had focus on herself. Brenda went home to find out that Jax had prepared a surprise birthday picnic for her. She tearfully informed him that she had to move out. Jax asked her if she was leaving him for Sonny and Brenda assured him that she wasnt, she just needed space to deal with her addiction on her own. Jax told her he would support Brenda in any way she wanted and the two expressed their love for one another before Brenda left for her new home at the PC Hotel.



After a visit from Robin, in which Robin told Brenda that she needed to let Sonny know about her new living arrangements, Brenda went to his penthouse, where she was welcomed by Mike. Brenda quickly set him straight about her visit and told him she was there only to talk to Sonny, not reunite with him. Mike told her how much she means to Sonny and asked her to wait at the penthouse until Sonny came home. After Mike left, Brenda had second thoughts about talking to Sonny and started to leave just as Sonny came in the door. Brenda told him they needed to talk and preceeded to explain to him her reasons for moving into the hotel and her need to be alone right then. Brenda implored Sonny to understand but he told her that as far as he was concerned she didnt need to be alone, she needed to be with him. Brenda told him she couldnt be with him and left the penthouse. Miranda spied her leaving and resolved to fight dirty to get Jax back.

Brenda decided that she hadnt gotten thru to Sonny and wrote him a soul-baring letter which she then asked Mike to deliver. Mike goes to the penthouse to give it to Sonny and ended up leaving it on his desk. Later, a visiting Miranda snagged the letter before Sonny saw it and took it to the bathroom where she steamed it open. Reading the letter, Miranda learned about Brenda's addiction and what really happened in the catacombs. After resealing the envelope and placing it back on Sonny's desk, she decided to go straight to Jax and reveal the truth to him. Miranda arrived at Jax's just as Brenda opened the door, her suitcase in hand. Miranda then proceeded to make some sarcastic remarks and started an arguement with Brenda, almost revealing that she read the letter Brenda wrote to Sonny.

When Sonny finally read the letter, he resisted the urge to rush to Brenda and proclaim his love for her again. Instead he wrote her a letter telling her that he didnt really understand her need to be alone but that he'll give Brenda all the time she needs to take care of herself. Later he told Mike he didnt see why Brenda had to "find herself" and Mike chided him for not being understanding and supportive.



After hearing about Emily's overdose, Brenda rushed to the hospital. Jax showed up too and Brenda told him she felt guilty for not noticing that Emily was in trouble. Jax comforted her, telling her that it wasnt her fault. Sonny walked up and saw the two of them and looked stricken to see Jax holding Brenda. Later, Brenda came across Sonny in the park and sat with him. The two had a real conversation, discussing Emily, Sonny's lying to Lily, how much each of them had changed, and how hard it is to do the right thing sometimes. Miranda came upon them as they were hugging each other goodbye but stayed out of sight. After Brenda left, Miranda came up to Sonny and began making some digs about his meeting with Brenda but Sonny masterfully cut her down. Miranda made some hints about knowing that Brenda was unfaithful to Jax before leaving.

Brenda had another session with Kevin and told him she felt guilty about not telling Jax what happened in the catacombs, and for what she's been putting both Sonny and Jax thru. Kevin advised her to put off telling Jax the truth and continue focusing on her drug problem. Afterwards, Brenda went to Jax's penthouse only to discover Miranda there. Miranda started making little digs at Brenda, and tried to force Brenda to reveal the truth but Jax asks her to leave. Miranda is shocked but goes. Alone with Jax, Brenda started to tell him the truth but recalling Kevin's advice, she decided it wasnt the right time. After leaving Jax, Brenda found that Miranda had waited for her in the lobby. Miranda hotly told Brenda that if Brenda wouldnt tell Jax the truth about what happened in the catacombs then Miranda would. Jax arrived in time to hear Miranda threatening Brenda and demanded to know why. Miranda responded by telling him that Brenda wasnt loyal and didnt deserve him but Jax refused to listen to her. He then blasted Miranda for jumping Brenda and told her she needed to leave. He then took Brenda off to the side to let her know that he was leaving to go to Alaska to visit his parents. They made a date to talk later in the week when he returned as an incredulous Miranda watched from afar.



Later, Brenda paid a visit to Miranda and warned her against revealing the truth to Jax. She told her that doing so would only drive him further away from Miranda. Miranda responded by telling Brenda she wouldnt let her hurt Jax anymore. Brenda gently reminded her that Jax hadnt been Miranda's for a long time. When Jax returned from Alaska he went to Miranda with a request: leave Port Charles for good. Reeling, Miranda started babbling about how Brenda had brainwashed him. Jax exploded and told her to shut up. Miranda responded by telling him that Brenda and Sonny slept together. Jax was speechless but not for long. He blasted his ex for lying and sneaking around, then told her to leave Port Charles once and for all, he didnt want to see her anymore. Later, Brenda met up with Jax and asked him why he was so upset. Jax explained that he told Miranda to leave town but he wouldnt tell Brenda why. Brenda decided that this was the time to tell Jax the truth and she began to when Jax stopped her. Jax told her that whatever happened in the catacombs should remain private. He then told her that they needed to let each other go if they were ever to come back together again in a healthy relationship. He then acknowledged that he forced Brenda to marry him and it wasnt fair.

Later Jax ran into Miranda at the airport but quickly informed her that he wasnt there to see her, he was going on a business trip. Dejected, Miranda boarded her plane and left. Not long after, Brenda and Sonny showed up looking for Miranda. As they told Jax why they needed her, to tell the police about seeing Dorman at the airport the day the drugs came in, the police arrive and searched Jax's bags. They arrested him when they found heroin in one and Jax accused Sonny of setting him up as the police took him away. Brenda angrily demanded to know if Sonny had anything to do with Jax's arrest but Sonny said he didnt. Brenda wasnt sure if she should believe him. Later, Sonny decided to tell Brenda the truth about Dorman and the drugs, and that he thought it was Dorman who had set Jax up. Brenda then insisted that they tell Jax. Sonny was upset but went with Brenda when she told Jax. Jax was furious but finally agreed to act as a decoy so that Dorman could be caught. Sonny gets extremely frustrated at Jax's reluctance and storms out of the penthouse. Brenda followed him and asked him to try to see it from Jax's point of view. They started to argue but Sonny ended it quickly by passionately kissing Brenda. Brenda pulled away stunned as Sonny told her the next time it would be because she came to him. Brenda stood there as Sonny left.
