Kauai 2001

We stayed at Poipu on the Southern Side of Kauai. This is a beautiful sunset just outside of our hotel. The surf was very rough.... which made for some beautiful pictures, but it was too rough for ME to swim in.

Poipu, where we stayed, was just 5 minutes from Spouting Horn. Waves come into lava tubes and come blowing out of a hole. It used to shoot higher, but the salt water was ruining sugar cane crops, so the company put explosives in Spouting Horn to make it spray wider instead of taller.

We took a 1 hour helicopter tour around the whole island.... it was by far the highlight of the trip for me. This is us by the helicopter, and below are some pictures taken from the choper.

Sandy Beach. Around here, some scenes from 6 Days 7 Nights were filmed.

This is Hanalea, where Puff the Magic Dragon Lives by the Sea. Hanalea does not actually rhyme with Sea. One of those crazy singers mispronounced it. The fields you are seeing are mostly Taro with a little bit of Sugar Field mixed in for good measure.
