Forsaken                                                       Forgiven

The symbol on Jaihyn's forehead is actually a brand burned in by a hot iron with coals and ash to give it the darkened color. Jaihyn was thus marked as an Outcaste from the Atarvani and the Varati society for perceived blasphemy against the living-god Khalid Atar. The Varati believe him guilty and cast him out. Jaihyn believes himself innocent. The interesting thing about the symbol, (done up by Inanna, Royalty of the Varati on Aether), is that it is very similar to the Sanskrit letter beginning the word Forgiveness, only the letter is reversed into a mirror image. Reversed, it is basically the opposite of forgiveness... Forsaken, which is the meaning of the brand. Perfect for a guilty, innocent man!

The character orginally had a lighter blond, sort of curly hair until the Outcasting from the Varati and then he started cutting it in a more straightened style and dying it jet black. Also, the character has steely grey eyes, not brown. :)

Friends and Associations (with Links!)

Jaihyn is now one of the Hounds of Haven, the Cityguard of Haven. He holds the rank of Sentire.

One of the people that Jaihyn has known the longest since coming to Haven, is the Varati, the Agni-Haidar Janizar, the Lion Khalil. Khalil and Jaihyn had this sort of a Love-Hate relationship. They Loved to Hate each other. Despite this, Jaihyn had a great amount of respect for the Lion, he taught the ex-priest alot in the way of the sword. They, of course, cannot associate anymore, due to Jaihyn's Outcasting, even if the Lion would even want to. Jaihyn never really knew Khalil's true feelings about him and hasn't even seen the man since being turned out.

The next person Jaihyn has known the longest is the Empyrean Altair Leander Chryseis. Altair is also one of the Hounds of Haven, but when the Varati first met him, Jaihyn was still priest, Akhund of the Atarvani, deep within the realm of the Varati. Nevertheless, although Altair was Empyrean and Jaihyn a Varati, the two men realized within each other a sense of racial tolerance that left them very good friends. Jaihyn now openly admits his racial tolerances, no longer having to hide them as Outcaste, and he serves side by side as Hound with Altair. He owes Altair a great deal as the man helped him right after the Branding and brought him into the Hounds.

Another good friend of Jai's is the Empyrean school teacher Kallista Constantina Adonisa. They met before Jai was thrown into prison, through Altair. When she realized that this Varati was a bit different from others, there started a trust between them that has lasted the time since their meeting. Jaihyn also owes her a huge debt as she took him into her home, healed and soothed him in the weeks after the Branding and Outcasting. She also aided him in the transformation of his new look. While his duties often do not allow him to visit, he tries to keep up with her the best he can.

Very early in the morn, when mist hangs in the air before making its way to the ground to turn the world into prisms of light upon the rising of the sun, there is seen a strange man, dressed in drab colors, those of ash and mud and wearing what looks to be a turban around his head. Just below the fabric of this odd wrap peeks the tail of something black, perhaps a tattoo, from between his eyebrows. With a look, left and right, once out of the main gates of Haven, a wooden staff in one hand, a bag bulging full of... something, he starts a journey away from the city, in an indeterminante direction. Later, some begin to notice the absence of a particular Hound, a newbie Guard just recently entered into the Bastion's ranks...

(OOC Note: Jaihyn is on RL vacation from July 1 to 20th! Have a great time, folks and a great summer! Thanks and hugs to all!) *==============================================================*

A month or so after the disappearance of the newbie Hound Jaihyn, a small disturbance in the Force rippled its way into the consciousness of those living somewhat close to the most northwestern part of the Varati lands. In the dead of night, on the eve of a new and empty moon, in the darkest time there can be in the cycle of the Night Goddess, a clan of simple sheep herders begin to stir. Within hours, tent pegs are pulled and the fluttering cloth packed, herds pulled together, fodder wrapped and settled onto the backs of different animals, personal possesions tossed quickly into bags. Then, in this darkest hour, a slow procession begins to move towards the northwest and out of the Varati lands. This column of the living does not take long to travel out and past the boundaries of these lands, being right along its edge. Only a man, woman and daughter stop before crossing over into unknown lands, looking into the direction where the City of Haven must lie, anguish in their faces and promises on their lips, sent across on the wind. With heavy hearts, they turn and step across the borders and into a new life.

About another month or so after this slight disturbance, also in the dead of darkest night, a man comes trudging back through the great Gates of Haven. His head wrapped inside a dark, earthly toned turban, the same dark tail of some tatoo, perhaps a brand, peeking out from between his eyebrows. He still carries his staff, but leans on it more than carries, a heavy limp in his step. He walks back through the gates several months after leaving them and heads straight for the Bastion of the Hounds.
