Campbell completed a remarkable 66 percent of his passes (215-of-326) for 3,037 yards. He tossed 21 touchdowns while throwing just one interception in the regular season. Campbell was also effective on the ground, finishing with 201 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. He helped William & Mary to a share of the Atlantic 10 title with a 9-2 record, and the Tribe earned the conference’s automatic berth to the playoffs. William & Mary qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2001 and the 9-2 mark was the best regular season finish since 1996.

Campbell displayed his immense skills in the season opener at I-A North Carolina. The Tribe lost, 49-38, but Campbell acquitted himself well with 322 yards passing and two touchdowns, to go along with two touchdowns on the ground. Campbell completed 60 percent or more of his passes in the final nine games. He posted strong games against Northeastern (22-36, 378 yards, 1 TD) and Liberty (19-30, 368 yards) and sparkled as the Tribe battled for playoff position down the stretch. He had big numbers in a loss to Delaware (20-30, 355 yards, 4 TD), and carried the Tribe to wins in the final four contests against Towson (20-29, 268 yards, 3 TD), Villanova (22-34, 232 yards, 1 TD) James Madison (26-33, 323 yards, 2 TD) and Richmond (21-28, 291 yards, 4 TD).

Campbell’s performance against the Dukes included a last-minute drive that propelled the Tribe to a 27-24 road victory.

Campbell received 40 first-place votes and 315 points from the panel of 94 I-AA sports information directors and selected media. Following Campbell in the voting were Sam Houston State quarterback Dustin Long, who earned 17 first-place votes and 185 total points, and Appalachian State wide receiver DaVon Fowlkes, who had eight first-place votes and 151 total points.
