Ahead of a commission, this was one of the preliminary sketches. Based on H.M.S. Victory, this ship of the line begins a broadside. I'd wondered if depictions of these naval engagements exaggerated the amount of smoke until I found myself next to a black powder naval cannon when it went off. Nope.
